Star Trek reference in FF9 - Page 3

They even had Star Wars references back in FF2, I can't remmember the names of the character right now, but there's a villian saying Name, I am your father :S

LOL, that particular SW reference is everywhere. Everyone says "I'm your father" since Empire Strikes Back came out. It's not so much of a reference anymore, but more of a cliche now.

But hey, "Nanaki = Anakin?" was good. Especially considering that name wasn't even mentioned all that much in SW before ep1. Could it be a coincident? Like is that a common Japanese name (with a meaning)? If so it could be the other way around, "Anakin" being a variation from "Nanaki"...

i'm sorry, i forgot who piett was. it's been quite some time since i've played ffvii. sorry for reviving the old thread ;-) i found it by accident and the red/nanaki thing has been on my mind for years.
this is somewhat off-topic, but i'm playing the german version of ffix right now and there's a funny reference to the new pope (back then he was still a mere cardinal in germany). someone - i forgot who - in one scene exclaims "what the ratzinger are you doing?!"

In FF8 Piet is the head of the Esthar spacial program (he is found in the lunar base). In "The Empire Strikes Back" there's a guy called "Admiral Piett"

Whoa, I never even knew Piett existed (in Star Wars). I mean that was the same guy in all those scenes? LOL
