Final Fantasy 7 Opcode Errors

My problem occurs during the very first battle of the game (the one with 2 soldiers). Everything is working fine except after I finish the battle and Cloud spins his sword and the screen is SUPPOSED to go to the post battle screen, ePSXe gives out the following error messages and crashes.

I've got 3 different ones from experimenting (using ISOs and the original CD), they are (I can't remember which one was from which test, sorry):

Opcode 1d UNK (PC00010014) (17127, 17)
SPEC Opcode 01 UNK (PC0009abf4) (0009abf4) (17043, 60)
SPEC Opcode 2c UNK (PC00000880) (00000880) (15057, 57)

I don't think it's a problem with the video plugins as I've tried all various settings including the ones on Lord Kane's site and the same thing happens. Anyways though I'm using Pete's OpenGL video plugin because FF7 looks best with it.

System Specs: P4 1.3 GHz 32 MB nVidia TNT2 card, 256 RAM (can't remember type)

I just hope a developer would see this and explain what error is happening. Thanks in advance, I'll be checking back often.

I just get another opcode error, one of those that I posted. Other Square games work perfectly on my system like FF9, so it's probably not my graphics card.

Re: Final Fantasy 7 Opcode Errors

what versions of which plugins are you using? and what region are you in (NTSC or PAL)?

updated pete's plugins to the latest version, but it doesn't change anything. I think the discs are NTSC, but anyways the game works perfectly until that point where the error shows up, so I don't think it's got anything to do about that.

Try running from an ISO.

Re: Final Fantasy 7 Opcode Errors

OK, then either the disc is horribly scratched or you've been using savestates and it's thrown a wobbler. If you're using save states, refresh from a memcard save and try again.

The problem happens at the very beginning of the game, so there's no saving involved. Also the error message always shows up at the very same spot, so I don't think corrupted save states or memcards is the problem.

Re: Final Fantasy 7 Opcode Errors

do you have a pirated version of this game? from what you've said so far i cant really tell....if you have a pirated version, please buy it.

EDIT: what version of ePSXe are you using? you should be using 1.5.2 as that seems to be the best for Square RPGs...

I borrowed this game from a friend who has a PSX and it ran ok on his last time, I don't think it's pirated since he doesn't buy pirated games and I'm playing using ePSXe 1.6 (same problem happens on 1.53). Good thing I borrowed Legend of Dragoon too or I wouldn't have anything to play...

EDIT: heh, sorry about that

The FF7 ISO wont work with ePSXe because theres a bug. Its already been explained in *warez site hushyz0red*... the ones who offered this corrupted ISO. The person that made the ISO had a bad Cd-rom. Dont bother with it until its fixed or download a different one from p2p networking.

edit by hushy: dont mention warez, thanks.

Read the rules. Mention of illegal material is not tolerated here.
Encouraging it is also not tolerated.
