A big thanks to NVIDIA for buying their "sorry asses" and burying their technology. Yeah, a big thanks to NVIDIA for buring their FSAA method, which was superior to both NVIDIAs and ATIs. A big thanks to them for burying every other collective IP that 3dfx owned. Thanks for nothing, more like. |

About the PC music, i don't know if you guys are aware, but in the Install Discs (for both VII and VIII) you can find the original soundfont banks. In the Install Disc for FFVII in "data\midi\sf2" you have the following files: FF7.sf2 (Big Version) FF7m.sf2 (Medium Version) ff7s.SF2 (Small Version) lb2.SF2 (real choirs) In FFVIII, after the game is installed, you can find the file FF8.dls in your game Data\Music\dmusic folder. If you load them into a soundfont manager you get instruments that were supposed to play, just like the PSX version. Just to post my impressions, which are that both version are good, the PSX versions in a real PSX, and the PC versions in a PC ![]() Greetings. |

On low-end PC (like P133MHz-500MHz) I recommend PC-version. With a good PC (1GHz+) PSX one is better, with 64Mb GFX-card and OGL2-plugins compatibility is superb. On 500MHz-900MHz, it depends. Either buggy PC-version or PSX-version with buggy OGL-plugins.

you can still play PSX emulation well on a low end PC like that--just ask esturk or Razor Blade (well not now with his 9800pro/P4 3ghz...he had a gf2/p3 500). i played FF7 perfectly fine back in the day of a TNT2 and 800mhz P3. but, lower than 500mhz or if you dont have a real gfx card (like, not even a TNT2 or a voodoo2) than the PC one is better for you. i remember my friend played it on a PII 233....with no sound. he never took the time to fix the problem of NEVER HAVING SOUND throughout the whole game. what a nut.

Yeah, the power of GFX card is very important. I played FFVII over one year ago with C500MHz & GF256 without battle swirl. It was fully playable expect some bugs. If I had a better GFX card then, maybe it would been much better. I think your friend is not a nut, maybe he was just very busy. I won't play FFVII without sound. You're right, sound is important.

why cant you guys run the pc version with over 640? my mates got it in 1024... no problems. its on his laptop right now. just need to do the options right? cause it was there for him. god knows what hopeless video chipset HP gave him for a slower machine or laptop would say the pc version. but on a higher powered machine where you dont have to worry about draggin a huge ass controller around then i would say the PSX version, it just feels better. it has more soul. Yes, there are only these two resolutions, though AFAIK there is an unofficial patch which enables more.

The increased resolution in some cases decreases image quality due to the nature of the backdrops. To be honest FF7 benefits far more from FSAA.

WEll considering we both have the 5600 now (although this one is an Ultra) which is superior to any card I've had before, and back in the day my geForce 2MX, my geForce 3, and my Voodoo 5 could do it in that game....

Enableing AA in the PC version causes graphic distortion. Either fonts get hard to read, backround gets these nasty blocks, and other stuff.

I believe I obtained said patches from somewhere within Qhimm's forums. As for the FSAA comment, 4x worked fine on my Voodoo 5 too. I also had it looking fine with my geForce 3. I recall I had to make sure that AF was off, and I may have had to use one of the more exotic FSAA methods, but it worked.

well IIRC the TNT2 (what i had) only went up to 2xAA so i never really bothered due to not really caring (and not knowing how to even enable AA the first time i would've played) anyway you got that 5600 ultra eh? i thought you said it wasnt that much of a jump from the GF3

TNT2 doesn't support AA or AF
