How to config my external CD-ROM drive?

I look at the configuration screen for Pete's Open Source CD-R plugin, and all the options (such as reading methods) are gibberish to me. Would anyone care to explain how I should configure the plugin for my external CD-ROM?

I'd like to add that I'm trying to get Castlevania: Symphony of the Night to work. I can get my CD-ROM working, but all I come up with is a black screen.
