Patching FF9 with Pete plugin

I can patch FF9 to work on ePSXe, but if I use Pete CDR plugin to patch the original in the fly and be able to play from the CD, it doesn't work (the emulator initialiting stops in CD Open). Is this a knowed problem?
I have patched Metal Gear Solid Special Mission and it works fine.

I want to patch the spanish version (PAL)

Did you specifically get the Spanish version patch for FF9?
www.aldostools.com may have whatever patch you need and I think there's a new FF9 patching guide there as well.
