FF9 wont start.

Hi folks. Just joined. Great forum. Very informative. I downloaded and started using this emu yesterday(cant get the ps2 in the lounge coz of the wife and her soaps). I think it's great. One prob though. I have the UK pal version of FF9 and I cant even get it to start. When I run CD rom all I get is a blank, black screen and it goes no further than that. I have created an iso image of cd 1 using isobuster and still no joy when I try to run the iso(ahhhhhhhh) I know the emu works because symphony of the night and the ff7 &ff8 work. I can see looking on the forum that other people seem to be having problems with this game bu most of you have managed to get it working. For those of you that have got it working is there any chance you could post(on this thread) the configeration and plugins your using so I can try them out and hopefully gat the game working. My system specs are.... Athlon 2000 xp, 120 gb hard drive(partitioned, Sound blaster audigy, 1024mb ddr, geforce 4 ti 4600, dvd player(runs cd's at 48x speed, cdr drive (48x12x48). Any help would be much appreceated.

Kind regards

FF9 UK has got copy protection that needs to be either bypassed or authenticated for the emu to play it (otherwise the game puts itself into an infinite loop). Two ways to do this.
Bypassing
1. Download the UK ppf patch file from www.ngemu.com/psx/ppf.php
2. Extact the files from zip file and place in the patch directory
3. Enable the Autoppf option

Authenticating.

1. Download the UK m3s file from www.ngemu.com/psx/ppf.php
2. Extact the files from zip file and place in the patch directory
3. Either enable the use subchannel option for the internal plugin, oruse peops cdr and enable it via its configuration window.

You have the possibility to make your own patch with peops too, it doesn't take more than 10 minutes. You can grab peops here. It's really easy. Then you can use it as Betamax said.

Superb. Thanks tons lads. I've on extra question now after that if you don't mind. I noticed when I applyed the patch and run the game I got full screen ntsc(I think). Well it's only pal when I play it on my ps2 and with the usual sqashedness(horrible). Can that be done with other games to? Lets say castlevania symphony of the night or ff7?

Not sure I understand you....
NTSC games can't normaly be played on a PAL Sony system. Patches allow this and squash the screen up....
However if you are referring to the horrible black borders of PAL versions, no I think you'll find that they are missing most of the time in PSX games in emus.

I've noticed that symphony of the night and ff7 still have them or perhaps they have them in ntsc to. I've never seen them except in pal. I did notice though when I applyed the patch that the boarders went by by.

Maybe I'm just so used to them that I don't notice them anymore... which is a frightening thought

I've just downloaded a patch from *edited* for symphony of the night it's in ppf format(whatever that is) The differeence with this one is that when I unzip it it leaves a ppf file that I've put into the patch folder(does'nt work). The other one I downloaded (when I unziped it) came out with 4 sles files that I put into the patches folder. Do you think I did the symphony of the night one right?

The Volume label of PSX CDs is something like SLES_21.11 or SLPS_016.88. Rename your PPF file to the one that is your Castlevania CD.

Done. Still not working. Never mind. Found the ntfs version. That'll do. I'll just keep the original one for legal perposes.
