NIC problem in Windows XP

Greetings,

I came here for help, since I can't solve my problem by any means.

I've recently installed an ADSL connection, where the cable modem connects to my NIC (it's a generic Encore NIC). When I initialize windows, it don't recognize my NIC, so I'm unable to connect. After some time (~3-4 minutes) it starts working normally.
It's highly annoying having to wait this time before connecting (specially after rebooting). I suspect there's some program freezing on initialization, but I have no clue as to what it is.

Does someone have any idea about the nature of this problem?
(I already searched on Google, but didn't find anything useful).

try updating your drivers

I already did. I uptade my realtek drivers, but to no avail. Really strange.

did u install the ADSL yourself? recheck all your connections, reseat the NIC card

Already did this too. The strange is that the connection starts working normally after a few minutes have elapsed.
