I'm gonna do it today 'cos some games I want to play don't run propperly on Win2K but do on WinXP. My question is, do I reeeeeeeally need to format my hard disk? I mean, both systems share the same core so I think it's allright just to install winxp over my win2k ![]() Any suggestion?

Not a good idea. It is _ALWAYS_ suggested that you reformat when installing a new operating system.

Same here, but maybe the Compatibility mode clinched it... or something like that.

Just saying it won't be any different in XP than in 2K, plus I think there's a problem in one part of the game that's still been unresolved (Chocobo racing part). Last time I heard it required some binary hack or something, wasn't entirely sure of it or if it worked at all. Omegainf: I upgraded to Windows XP (from 2K) for almost the same reasons as you (better gaming support) and it wasn't an improvement at all. I doubt going to XP will solve your problem with those games. Just get the latest service packs and upgrades and try to find an NT workaround for them. My advice would be to just stick with 2K and find patches for them or do a dual-boot with 9x.

Cool, XP is installed (it looks soooooo cool ) but instead of "upgrading" from my 2k installation it created a c:\windows and installed xp on it which means now I can dual-boot xp/2k but I don't want it.How can I uninstall 2k, remove the boot menu and get my start menu items back? I think that with the start menu I can simply copy/paste it from the "documents and settings" folder, can't I?

Do you have them installed on FAT32 or NTFS, this type of info can help a lot with OS help. On the off chance that you do have them on FAT32 grab a copy of the Windows ME bootdisk (www.bootdisk.com) and restart. Once in DOS navigate to the hard disk and use this command deltree windows or it could be deltree C:\windows Its been a while since I did this so not exactly sure of the DOS commands. Once the directory has been deleted boot back into the remaining OS and Right Click on the My Computer Icon and select Properties, once there select the Startup and recovery tab, then set your default as Windows 2000 and untick the option to show the Boot Menu, when you next restart you will head straight into Windows 2000 and have the chance to tidyup the XP remains. I would suggestb though that you invest in a cheap CD Burner and backup all your important stuff, you never know when a power cut or case of Little Brother will damage you computer and its hard drive. |

I'm on NTFS. Changed my mind, gonna keep XP and shift+del c:\winnt ![]() Then I'll find a way to remove that multi-boot menu

Both 2000 and XP have the Startup and Recovery option, get to it through System in the Control Panel or Right Clicking on the My Computer Icon, there you can select your default OS and select to show the boot menu or not, its that simple.

AFAIK it doesn't work with XP since it's a DOS/Linux program... that or my Mugen knowledge is terribly outdated.
