Unhappy Memory Card Data Erased

Hi everyone, I new to the forum but not new using ePSXe. I've been using ePSXe for a while now and everything I've done on the emulator has worked well. Recently, I experienced a problem while trying to play one of my games. When a started the games and tried to load the memory card, the game claims there was no data, when i exited the emulator and checked the memory card, the data in the memory card was indeed gone. Now I also use save states as a sort of quick save so I still have those, but I was wondering, if you use both save states and memory card saving would this cause the memory card data to erase or is there some other reason. This is the first time I ran into this problem and wanted to know if anyone has experienced this problem and/or have any ideas or solutions. Thanks in advance.

I think if once you start using a mixture of saved states and memory cards you might run into problems. It is better to use one method and stick with that. Personally I always use memory cards.

A saved state contains the contents of memory cards also (just to confuse things ). You might be able to view these memory cards in the saved states and recover them using PSXMemTool. Maybe you want to give it a try and let me know how you get on. (Just open your saved state in PSXMemTool like you would with a normal memory card, a saved state contains 2 memory cards).
