Cd rom problems!!!

Hello guys out there!!!!
My friend encounter a strange problems lately with his cd rom drive...
Like this, his cd rom drive can't read cd quickly and almost all the time it can't detect any cd....but strangely..it only can detect lens cleaner cd after trying a few times...what is the prob?!!!
This also occur with other cd(games), but once it can read it there is no sign of damage from the drive since it can play as smooth as baby skin!!!!
Help!!!

Hardware failure perhaps? Sounds like maybe your friend is going to need a new CDROM drive. But that's just my judgement, based on simmilar problems I've seen.
