Question

I just downloaded ePSXe and tried to run Res 3 on it. I can't seem to get any good settings for it. I got a Voodoo 3 16MB, PIII 600 and 128 RAM. What plugins or seetings do you pros reccomend for this newbie?
I converted the game to a .BIN file and ran it from the hard drive and the sound was ver choppy during the Intro and there was no speech (hence no story).
Is it because I got the SCPH1000 Bios and not the SCPH1001?
Sorry if it seems like I'm complaining, ut I'm completely new to this and don't know the capailities of this emulator.

Thanks

Choppy sound and speech problems in games are both problems right now. The authors are doing their best, but it seems that perfect PSX sound and sound effects are quite hard to do. It was that way w/the SNES, but breakthroughs were made, and now the snes emulators have perfect, accurate sound.
Speech seems to be the hardest to get right, I'm not sure why this is. Many games have missing speech, limited speech, or no speech at all. The emu authors are working on this as well, so we'll just have to wait and see what developes.
The best bioses to use are the 1001 and 7502. I use the 7502 almost exclusively and it works perfectly for me. For the GPU (graphics plugiin) you'll want to use Lewpy's plugin since you have a Voodoo 3 card. Voodoo cards use Glide and Lewpy's plugin is made for Voodoo cards, since it works w/Glide. Pete's plugins do not work w/Glide, they work w/D3D and OGL, so they are not best suited for Voodoo cards.
Hope this helps you out some. Best of luck.
sincerely,

Re: Resident Evil 3

As far as I know the differneces are the country that it was made in, ie Pal NTSC JAP , and to add various inprovments over the years eg dual shock pads etc..

Could somebody back me up on this?

Betamax, the first part you are correct about. Zep, the 1001 bios is an American Bios designed for PSX's sold in the Americas. The 7502 Bios is a European Bios designed for PSXs sold in Europe, the UK, and elsewhere. One of the Bioses is a Japanese one designed for the PSXs that were released in Japan and Asian countries. These bioses work w/the emulator wether you are using PAL or NTSC.
The other part that Betamax mentioned, about allowing for Dual Shock control and other things, I am not 100% sure about. But it makes sense to me. Hope this helps clear it up some. Take care.
sincerely,

Re: Resident Evil 3

Thanks for the second opinion. BTW out of curiousity, I take it that the emulators must have a mod chip or something if an american bios runs Pal games. Is this what stops games with anti-mod (libcrypt) protection from working or am I mad?

Re: Resident Evil 3

i believe that libcrypt protection isnt region based. i think it refers to the unreadable sector protection that psx cds generally have. i dont think emulators have developed a scheme that allows the cdrom drive to fully function as a psx drive and be able to recognize these errors and thus multiple calls for "error sector" verification, which i believe is the way libcrypt works, is why emulators in general cant handle it..

No offense but

1. It costs money
2. Its only in software
3. If I what that quality of graphics all I need to do is plug my psx into my tv card.

Thanks ... but no thanks

Too bad for you but it's not allowed so you should be more careful when you post.
