More Microsoft aquisition rumors.

Not sure the validity of it yet. But I am looking into it right now.

It makes sense however. Xbox Live could really benefit from titles like these.

Quote:
f insider speculation is to be believed, Microsoft has bought US publisher Vivendi, with an announcement to that effect due soon. Take a deep breath and reflect on the implications of that, if true.

Half-Life 2, Warcraft, Counter-Strike, Crash, Spyro, Lord of the Rings... Vivendi has an enormous portfolio boasting some of the biggest titles on all formats, and it would be an ultra-smart move on Microsoft's part to snap them up. Such a buyout, of course, would come at a terrifically high price, making the 365 million acquisition of Rare look like peanuts. But if anyone has the necessary funds, it's Microsoft.

Furthermore, an email from Universal was accidentally sent out to developers last week stating that all work on GBA titles should be suspended. The email was promptly recalled and branded an error, but could it be that this was in some way tied in with this alleged deal?

We contacted Vivendi for comment and a spokesperson told us: "We've heard all sorts of rumours over the past months - Activision, EA and many more. They'd all like to get their hands on Blizzard. I guess Microsoft are one of the few companies that has enough money."

If this is true as various sectors of the press believe then we should be seeing an official announcement on Friday. So Microsoft now has its hands in Valve, Blizzard and others if this is true... Dark times or more security for developers considering Vivendi's habit of dropping underperforming studios

Same here. PC Games belong on PCs. And I am talking about Desktop PCs, not some shrunken PC in a big black box.

As long as they they don't have Konami in their sights I don't give a damn. Not that Konami would sell out to M$ in a thousand years.

This is just the console market guys, Warcraft, Starcraft, Ain't leaving the PC, If it does. Id be very surprised. Blizzard won't throw away its PC market with those games.

However Demigod raised an interesting point. IF companies like Blizzard get involved in Console Online networks. The realization of multi platform online gaming will start to become more feasible.

Well, given how much Konami gives to Nintendo fans, I couldn't give a rat's ass if MS bought them. My only problem with that would be that it would give MS a lot of power, and that's the last thing they need. I just want them gone so that we can all go back to gaming.

First Rare, and now this? It is truly a dark day for the village of game companies under the looming cloud of Microsoft.

Agreed. The Hal-life/CS scene is just way too big for them to turn their back on it. And if they did, that would be bad news. I mean, people who play CS stab each other IRL for Christ sakes!( It happened in some Asian Internet Cafés folks!) You certainly wouldn't want to get on their bad side.

And I thought that Valve already tried to do the multi=platform online gaming with the Dreamcast version of Half-Life, right? IIRC correctly people with the dreamcast version were supposed to be able to play DMC against people with the PC version? But I guess since that it was never released, its kinda a moot point...

I don't think that any big company (Konami, Capcom, etc) will accept to be bought by MS... as for this, well it's just a rumor... let's wait to see how it turns out...

exactly. the Idea is for Exclusive Console rights. Rather than PC ports. No company is going to give up PC ports. But it could be very profitable for Blizzard and Viv to expand there ports to another online network.

Not to mention that at this moment Xbox seems to have the most solid base for online gaming...

Hehehe, hahahah, mwahaha! Errr sorry...

When we say Half-Life 2 being exclusive to Xbox of course its still gonna come out for PC... The PC isn't a console.

At any rate, StarCraft: Ghost would be exclusive to Xbox wouldn't it? Mwhahaha!

I hope its true.

Give Microsoft a break. They're only trying to compete with the biggest console giants in the world! Nintendo and especially Sony need some real competition and it looks like Microsoft is giving them the kick in the ass they need. So what if the X-Box is like a PC? Most consoles now are like PC's. X-Box is just the first one to be really like a PC. Just wait until the PS3 comes out!

No matter how much I hate XBOX, if Deus Ex2 and Half Life2 does make it to it, then I'll consider XBOX to be the perfect "compact" () PC at the most reasonable choice.

Now only if Raw2 proves to be good

As I have said before, "Bill Gates does not like to lose." If this is true then this just proves it all the more. A move like this is what it would take for him and MS to really start tackeling Sony and Nintendo. Never under estimate Bill Gates or MS.
sincerely,

well like for example Red Alert... they made it into a PS game but it never clicked like the PC version... so PC games should stick to PC...
