Star Wars: The Clone Wars

Having had bad review after bad review, to tell the truth I didn't expect much when I rented the game. But being the Star Wars fan I am, I rented it anyway. I have to say that reviewers are far too harsh in their reviewing after playing it though.

The game suffers from a horrible frame rate, but it's definately forgivable considering the quality of everything else.

Picture this: You are in a clone gunship blasting everything that moves while the Star Wars music plays in the background, and the clone war is going on around you. IT'S FREAKING AWESOME!

Seriously, I have absolutely no complaints about this game whatsoever. It's challenging, fun, and most of all, it's Star Wars. Clumsy controls and a bad framerate do nothing much to hurt this game. It's just that cool. Definately the best Star Wars game since Rogue Leader.

No. It's only for PS2 and GameCube.

That being said, I just finished the game. The ending sucks, but the gameplay was still great. It's like a hybrid of Battlezone and Rogue Squadron. If you are a Star Wars fan, you MUST play this game.

re-affirms the natural fact of life that anything that is SW is good, except jar-jar.

Actually, I rented Bounty Hunter right before the Clone Wars. I must say that the sound effects, voice acting, music, and FMV were all top notch. Star Wars games for years to come will have to be compared to Bounty Hunter in those areas.

However, I didn't much like the level design or repetitive gameplay in it. It just wasn't as fun as the Clone Wars. I only made it to the second level, and I must say that I was impressed by Coruscant, but I would spend way too much of my time wandering around lost. I like a faster paced game.

Repetitive gameplay is usually a result of lazy staff or rushing to get the game in stores leaving them little time to come up with a plot.
(Bounty Hunter & Shinobi for ps2)

yea, Coruscant was a bit of a maze, but the third mission, a prison, is pretty good. but there is one little logic flaw, and that is that the escaped prisoners and the guards are fighting YOU, not eachother.

Err, I don't think Jar-Jar is that bad

And what happened to the good ol' StarWars games? Before, it was mostly flying. Now, it's just blasting things. Seriously, I've yet to play a StarWars games that gives me the satisfaction of flying in space as Tie-Fighter, X-Wing Vs Tie Fighter and X-Wing Alliance did I want the Defender back!! (the top secret Empire fighter that was used by Darth Vader in the 4th episode, and the one u got to ride in the final mission of Tie fighter)

It's called an Advanced TIE Fighter IIRC.

You can unlock it in Rogue Leader if you are a bloody good pilot, and have finished the game at least once. I think you need like 20 points to unlock one of the levels, and 20 more to unlock the second one.

Spoiler:
The first bonus level with the TIE Advanced is over the Yavin Moon. In an alternate history scenario, you are tasked with destroying the retreating Rebel fleet.

The second level is above the Death Star. You are tasked with destroying the Rebel fighters attempting to put a proton torpedo down the Death Star's exhaust vent.

my sentiments exactly

...not that the more "shooter-oriented" SW games are bad, but I liked the older/more complex "space combat sim" ones, better. LucasArts prefers to develop console-like "space action" games and then make PC ports if they sell good, because PC gamers will more or less like them, and buy them. Its not working the other way around, though: true "space combat sims" (like X-Wing) never have a chance on consoles - they're strictly for PCs (the complex controls being one reason).

Plus, the "space combat sim" genre is not so hot right now (heck, even the flight-sim genre is barely surviving), so LucasArts is playing it safe: when it comes to PCs, they just release "sure-fire" FPS games *cough-JediKnight-cough*

...lets hope that Freelancer's arrival will revitalize the true space-combat-sim genre...

I've heard that Freelancer isn't exactly a Space Sim.

Anyways, I didn't much like X-wing vs TIE Fighter or X-Wing Alliance. They may have been decent Space Sims, but they lost the atmosphere of Star Wars in the process. Rogue Leader IMO is the greatest Star Wars flight sim ever made. The controls and feel of the different fighters was pretty accurate. I had problems with the Millenium Falcon and Slave 1, but the others were almost perfect. The mission objectives seemed very Star Warsie for the most part, and the settings were perfect.

Here's to hoping Factor 5's next game will be yet another Star Wars game.

...yes, its more of an Elite clone - or to put it better, a Privateer clone. I like this kind of "space-trader-explorer" games, at least as much as I like traditional space combat sims ...if this game turns out to be real bad, then it'll probably be a looong time before a similar game ever gets developed. (not that anyone but me should really care about that )

..yup, the controls are pretty radical for a space sim. They somewhat resemble an FPS. Personally, I prefer the good ol' joystick, but I'll wait for a demo or something, before I make any further critisism.

Like Elite? Hmmm, this could be interesting. Well, it's either this or online games like EVE so I'm hoping Freelancer is good
