Gran Turismo 2 racing controller problems

I've been trying to get GT2 working for awhile and it looks great, but i have a strange controller problem. I can control the menus fine, but when i go to race, i can accelerate and stuff but can't steer, i thought this was really weird so i was experimenting with setting the controller to just plain digital and then i couldn't control the menus! but if i saved state just before a race started and then switched to plain digital (instead of digital/analog) then i could control it, but then it would freeze when the race was over. any help would be appreciated. thanks a lot.

I never have that kind of problem with GT2 on my comp.. You could try to press f4 twice right before the race starts..... I usually press f4,f4 at the title screen to make sure I don't have any controller or memcard problems... then after which the game runs flawlessly....
