Yes, it should be. But power usage doesn't depend on the CPU alone. Other devices in the computer also use power and the power requirements depend on what kind of devices you have and how many. Generally 300W should be enough for a standard computer.

I think athlon xp 2100+ consumes around 25W, I have a 300w power supply and it works fine with my config: athlon 1.3, 60gb hdd + 40 gb hdd (these are seperate, not partitions), teac rw, lg dvd rom, my monitor is not connected to computers power supply it is in a seperate jack in my UPS and everything works fine, so yes 300W is enough for a solid configuration (note I didn't count my DVB card, sound card, video card but they all have some influence in power consuming but not as the components I mentioned)

2bzy4ne1, just make sure that your new power supply is AMD rated and certified. If you do that, you should be okay. I had a 250 Watt power supply (AMD rated and certified) runing my AMD XP 1700+ CPU, GF4 TI 4600 video card, Sound Blaster Audigy sound card, two HDs, plus a DVD/CD drive and a CD-R/RW drive. I had no problems w/it at all. When I upgraded to an XP 2000+ CPU, I up graded my power supply to a 350 Watt (again, AMD rated and certified). Everything is running smoothly. sincerely, sx/amiga |
