i dunno e_e another quick question. i just finished a visual basic course and am in a c++ course so i have a pretty basic knowledge of how programming works, but how do game makers run their c++ code on the ps2? i heard of a linux kit or somethin but i don't know that much about it.

It's much the same as regular OpenGL or DirectX programming I believe, only MUCH more difficult.

Not a bad idea. I am a second year computer science major, and I am finding DirectDraw difficult.

University of Lethbridge. Our CS department sucks though. I hadn't actually planned on staying here, but I was an engineering major my first year, and my grades were so crappy coming out of that that I really had no choice. ![]() A lot of the stuff I am trying to learn I have to do on my own time. We don't have all that much in the way of selection at my school, although I must say that they teach the basics rather well. |

lol. Can't say as that I really like Rockstar that much, but I think that my best advice to you would be to take a lot of art and multimedia courses along with your CS classes. It'll open up a lot of doors for you. What I would really like to do though is work for Silicon Knights, and help make whatever games they want to make. That would be my dream job.... But I would take whatever job I can get in the gaming industry. |

Guess it's C or C++ but of course they have to use a special development kit that generates executable programs for the PS2 hardware, which has (unlike the X-Box) nothing in common with a PC. This devkit also includes a modified PS2 that can run the newly created programs, since a normal PS2 can't (for the simple reason that Sony wants to control which games are released and they want money for each copy sold).

I use a different compiler for building GBA executables, but I still write all my source code in Visual Studio. Maybe that's what he meant.
