action - reaction type of games (aka button mashing)
anyone likes these types of games where you have to quickly react to an event by pressing the right button? It's a rather large genre (meaning a lot of games make use of it in some way); it started in the arcade with laserdisc games like dragons lair and space ace, there are also games like this on consoles (like for example incredible crisis on psx) and nowadays it's especially popular in music-type games (space channel 5, beatmania, ddr). It's also in Shenmue 1 and 2. Anyone else likes this kind of stuff, and, if so, can you perhaps recommend any titles? |

"Braindead 13" was one of the greatest games of this kind. Its really old, but the graphics are still good. The PC version is for DOS, so its best to get the PSX version. It works great on EPSXE.

Dragon's Lair on the SegaCD was pretty good... but sometimes no matter how well you reacted the game still wouldn't acknowledge the input...

Shenmue and incredible crisis are good ones that I have played. There is another game called "VIP" but I wouldnt recommend it unless you are a die hard fan of pamela anderson. (I guess I posted screenshots from this game about an year ago).

Samor, Mario Party uses that extensively. You can check out Mario Party 1, 2, or 3 on N64, or Mario Party 4 on GameCube. There are some mini-games there that involve all kinds of tricks with the controller. I haven't played the game in quite a while though. I mean to check out Mario Party 4 one of these days though. IMO Mario Party is the king of this genre type though. Pokemon Stadium is also pretty good as far as that goes too. There's a few mini games that make use of this. A lot of timing is involved there though, where you have to alternate buttons, or time it according to the screen. (Mario Party does this better though IMO) |

Yeah that minigame is fun - it's right at the beginning. If you get everything right you get I think 10,000 gil - pretty good for early in the game.

Examples of those types of games can be found on the first generation of CD consoles, say CD-i, SegaCD, Panasonic 3DO. Examples of games are : * Dragon's Lair * Dragon's Lair 2 * Road Avenger * A game of the same company that made Dragon's lair, it was about a space dude... but I can't remember the name of the game. * Braindead 13 Amongst others... |

Eh forget them. I don't think that they're better than Shenmue.
