Sony's PSX was a revolutionary console, ( It provided excellent 3D graphics at its time) and was more superior than the SNES and genises. Moreover, it was more easier to develop games for the PSX more than the Saturn, and the psx release came just after the saturn's to stab sega from the back. Thats why the PSX had greater success, its not becuase of the sport games........
I take it you've never heard of Benard Stolar? CEO for the original Sony Computer Entertainment Systems. The one responcible for the launch of the Sony PSX.

His Theory was "get them alot of sports game at launch and action games and let the console sell itself"

Sports games are HUGE selling factor for a console. If microsoft only had EA delivering titles for them. It would make things quite a bit different than they are now.

RPGS while being popular. Are only popular with brand names that get the hype. The average user know absolutely nothing about games like WIld Arms, Threads of Fate, and all the little titles. Without the Hype RPGS have some of the worst sales in the industry.

Sports games can sell well even when they are terrible. Microsoft is on the money in pushing the action games and sports titles out.

Ugh I'm not replying to this thread anymore. It makes my nervous huge. And I don't feel like arguing about same points of microsofts business strategies. As I've stated before. Microsoft isn't doing anything other companies haven't done in the past. If anything Microsoft is following the example with there aparent sufficient funds.

This is why I don't reply to these threads. People are so stuck in there beliefs. That drilling information into there heads is not enough. And know it's not exclusive to anyone. Including me. I'm done here.

It's not that they are going down just because they get bought by MS, if the companies can find profit on the purchase I think they will accept...

Bah, WildArms is a moderately successful title. Bombs don't make 2 sequels that sell across the world.

ChrisRay, I don't really see how Sports games can be as powerful as you say. EA and Sega are currently competing with eachother in that department, and both of them are shovelling games onto all 3 systems. I may not be a sports player, but that says to me that in the sports area nobody really has an advantage.

As for RPGs being popular, it is as you say in the US. People only care about the big names for the most part. Yet I am not seeing any big names on Xbox, while both GameCube and PS2 have the name Final Fantasy following them around. In Japan, RPGs make up a HUGE portion of the market.

Here are a few strong names :
* Halo (and its future sequel)
* Shenmue (even though 75% of the ppl on this forum hate/dislike it the game has a lot of followers)
* Dead or Alive (considered by some to be the succesor of Virtua Fighter)
* Panzer Dragoon (the ones who didn't have a Saturn won't understand what I'm talking about...)

Those are a few, for now... when I find some more (if I find) I'll post them...

sports games are very popular; because they're not targeted at the hardcore gamer, but rather at anyone; you can also put as much (or as less) time in them as you want. RPG's are much more different; they require lots of time, are much more expensive to produce, and while a number of them makes huge sales, there are also ones that dont AND they have to compete against ENORMOUS amounts of much cheaper, mass produced sports games.

From FIFA 98 to 2k3, they all have been top-sellers (I think), and in some cases there were minor changes from one to its predecessor...

Kaiser the games you listed are indeed quite powerful, but there are games on other consoles that are just as powerful, if not more powerful.

Samor, I understand that Sports Games appeal to the casual gamer, but still, the same games are available for all 3 consoles. I don't see where it gives Xbox an edge at all.

This is slightly off topic, but if there are any European GameCube owners in this thread, then I would appreciate it if you checked this out. NOE is giving away this theme to anyone that registers a GameCube on their site. Having an NTSC/UC GameCube makes me ineligible to get the theme, but I would still really like it. If any Europeans here would like to help me out a little, I would be eternally in your debt.

Of course there are plenty of games more powerful than the ones that I listed here... but think about it, if a monster who don't know ANYTHING about video games can have those titles... in time they will get better, trust me, it's going to happen... and sorry but sport games count a lot... I know a lot of ppl (and I mean A LOT) who goes nuts over games like Sega Tennis 2k2... that's just to mention an example... sport games are more important that what you can imagine...

Hey bro, (usually I do this when I get tired of reading boring stuff j/k) find rep[lacements for these on the XXBOX and I'll admit that it is the best console in the market:

Smackdown JBI
Smackdown SYM
GTA3
GTA VC
GT3 A spec
GT3 concept 2001
GT3 Concept 2002
Devil May cry
Devil May cry2
Suikoden3
FFX
Legaia2
RE CVX

and I could go on and on for quite some time. I have done that. I won't mind doing it again.

MY POINT:

If you take into consideration all the games till 2004 of both PS2 and XXBOX, anyone can notice the better lineup of the two. This is why XXBOX isn't the better console when compared to PS2.

I'll leave the GC part to Ninja.

Shenmue and Panzer Dragoon are probably as niche as the "lesser known" RPGs you talked about that allegedely sell very poorly... no, sorry, probably MORE.

I like the way you post games Ninja, but try to filter out the ones which are also on the XXXBOX.

The bottom line is, the XXXBOX lacks good games and when there'll be enough games on it XXXBOX2 will also be there.

Syed, I would filter out the games, but then I am positive that some Xbox lacky would come in and post all the Xbox games that are half decent (multiconsole or not), and say that Xbox whoops butt.

My stance on this issue is that regardless of a game being multiconsole or not, it's still good, and is an asset to the system.

You didn't copy+paste from somewhere else?

You did post something similar in the DC thread, IIRC.

No. I compiled that list myself, based on the games and release dates pages on Planet GameCube. I filtered out the games that I didn't think were worthy of listing, and sorted the categories into something more fitting from the mess on the PGC page.

And yes, the list here is a direct copy and paste from the DC thread. It seems like there was something noteworthy for GameCube that was just announced, but I can't recall what that was... If I remember, I'll edit it.

well, I'm happy that I own both a GC & PS2. So I cover just about 90% of the console titles released (I figure). Aside from the multi-console titles, the GC seems to have more exclusive titles being made for it.
