PS2 vs GameCube vs XBox

All right! Let's get started. First the rules:

1) No flaming
2) No off-topic posts. This discussion is about the consoles, and which is better.
3) Try to say something constructive. Posts such as "(My Console) Rules!" will generally be treated like spam.

So, down to business. Which console is your favorite, and why?

Note: Apology to Dreamcast people. Since the system has been officially killed by Sega, I didn't think it appropriate to include it, otherwise I would have.

PS2 is better. It's got the games I want, and backward compatibility too. Can I play N64 games with the GC? Probably, when Nintendo develops a cartridge port or something, but right now PS2 catches most gamers' attention than the GC.

Well, I figure that if you have PSX games that you want to play, you would have a PSX to play it on, or at least a copy of ePSXe. I don't know many people who have games for a system they don't have.

Sure, but no one really expects the PSX to last that long in terms of durability. But in my case, my SCPH-1001 still works after 7 years, although it's undergone a lens replacement a year back.

Emus are IMO out of the scope of this thread.

ah, the Topic that never dies

Gamecube. When it comes down to it, as much as I enjoy Onimusha or Fatal Frame (and Sly Cooper lately), I would take Link and the T-Virus any day. The lack of DVD (the Japanese one has the option of an add on one for like and extra 100 dollars or so I beleive, ??) isnt an issue with me as I have a stand-alone one readily available. And besides, TINY DISCS!

I haven't played more than 10 minutes with the GC (hey, I'm willing to give it more of a chance), but I choose the PS2 because it's a revamped PSX: it has everything and more than that console did.

IIRC this one is the 6th?

Most of the ppl are quite aware of my opinion. I voted PS2. Details later.

In response to Shiroi's Post:

Its kinda interesting actually, if you look in the North American GC Manual thats comes with the GC you'll see pictures for the Memory Card management screen, there are saved games in there for Mario64 O_o Weird. I'll post some screens of it if any one would like to see it.

I am a big fan of the PSX and hope the ppl at sony keep the good game developers on their side. I think that it is funny that the PS2 has the crapest hardware of the three game systems out right now, yet they still manage to crank out some awsome and some visualy stunning games every once and a while.

ps2, but it's only slightly ahead of the gcn; both have excellent games. gcn is of course better on the gfx department, but slightly weaker in variety, though not by much.

I recently got a gamecube, i love it!!!

Too me, if i had to choose between the 2, i have to go for ps2, most of the games that i like is there. BUT, i bought my gamecube for future games that will be there. and basically have fun with both worlds.

side note: 3 hrs, playing into mario sunshine, i just had to drop/ letgo my gamecube controller. and get the psx to gc conveter. i can't stand the button layout.

i can't wait for Marvel vs Capcom 2 this month, its coming out for ps2 !!!

i just got a platinum gamecube.
Let me break this down:

Playstation 2: I love MGS, and Square games are great, so i like this system. Wish i could have xenosaga... but other than that... PC and the next system will satisfy me.

GC: 1st/2nd party ahoy! Zelda, Mario Party, Metroid, Resident Evil, SSBM, SMS, Eternal Darkness.... shall I keep going? Nintendo is in the business to stay. Why? DVD capability? No. Superior marketing? Hardly. Nintendo is No. 2 software seller in the world, and we can all see why. Plus I will get my Square fix soon enough (though square games lately have been a bit... eh... no i havne't tried KH yet).

Xbox: Sega. That's it.

I choose gamecube because it has the most exclusive content that I want. Yes i would like some more RPGs, they're my favorite genre. but I don't play 80% of them anyway, i can live with playing them on a friend's PS2.

Shiori, I find your stance on the PS2's backwards compatability kind of interesting considering the PS2's lack of durability. I would rather pay the $50 for a new PSX than to pay the $200 for a new PS2.

Zukeft, the PS2's hardware is more reminiscent of an N64 with a DVD-ROM than a PSX. I remember one developer commented that the PS2 was a serious accompishment. Sony managed to develop a machine that was more difficult to program than the N64.

I am primarily an RPG player as well Alias, but I figure I can wait a few more months for GameCube to enter that world.

Samor, Shiori told me to post this thread in Open Discussion, so that's what I did.

Well, Game Discussion is fine with me, but how about making it sticky again?
