Total Immersion Racing (PC)

http://www.empireinteractive.com/pro...ts.asp?prod=27

Pretty much a total console port. In fact, the default configuration options don't even let you map *keys* to things since you know, PS2's don't have keys. The old "modify a cfg file" is needed just to use the keyboard at all. Lovely. No network multiplayer support and poor force feedback support (the menus say "vibration".. wow, console!)... My nice FFB wheel is useless with this game.

Graphics are decent for a PC game. Hi-res has a definate advantage. Since the game is designed for consoles, the PC version flies on moderately fast hardware (anything faster than an xbox pretty much). Backgrounds are weak but the car models have good polygon counts. They do seem too computer generated for my tastes, a bit too perfect.

This is 800x600, and no FSAA. Not so great. Compare to this monster 1280x960 image:

Unfortunately since PS2's also don't have a screenshot key, neither does this game. Print Screen captures to the clipboard, so I have to quit out to get each shot. I don't think so.

All in all, I guess for a console it would be good but not for PC. I can't play racing games alone anymore (too much online fun) so I will have to give it the ol' thumbs down. Seems like your typical European $29.99 racing title.. 60% effort on a game that would shine with some more attention.

This game looks cool~ may be just the kind of game I'm looking for: a Gran Turismo- style game on the PC

No, it's certainly not GT3 by any stretch. The number of cars it has is small, and the track selection is not very exciting. It looks ok, but that's all. Simple "quick race, career, head-tohead" game types.

GT3 is far above and beyond this title. Now if they made GT3 for PC.. I'd need to change my underwear 40x more often.

ok, played it;
in one word: AVERAGE. Not bad, not the best. No ugly graphics, no superb visuals, Nice music, not bad but not special. It's as average as a game can be. Almost dull

Unhappy

Well after all it was just a rumour about GT3-Pro

January 10, 2002 - We've seen a couple of posts on this already so we thought we'd clear things up a bit. A short time ago, in an interview Kazunori Yamauchi stated that he would like to bring Gran Turismo 3 to the PC to "reach a higher audience." His comments weren't meant to imply that the game is coming to PC -- just that it would have a sizable audience if it did. Our contacts at Sony have categorically denied that there's any truth to the rumor so it looks like, for now, PC gamers will have to get their racing fix elsewhere.

For the peeps wanting something close to GT on the PC...

in early 2003 Toca Race Driver will be released for PC. It will have the most detailed damage model on vehicles you've probably seen so far; something GT doesnt even have.

Also, try Live For Speed. This game is a realistic driving simulator being developed by a bunch of people who dont even have a publisher yet, but are trying to make a realistic as possible racing sim. A demo is currently out (and gets updated often) and I can highly reccomend it.

As for this game (total immersion); i've played it some more and it gets better when you get the faster cars. The handling seems to be a bit arcade-like but it plays pretty cool. Also, on hard difficulty its a pretty nice challenge.

btw, check www.bhmotorsports.com , it's the best site I know for racing sim freaks that prefer pc's over consoles

it's nice that you know that about a game of which it's very doubtful if it will ever be released on pc

...this may be a little OT, but I've just checked out the game Samor suggested - Live for Speed.... WOW !!
...this is very promising, to say the least !! ...too bad the demo only supports analog devices (I'm a "keyboard-man").
