Xenogears Problem

For some reason during the attack in Lahan in the beginning of the game(and probably in the rest of the game during some scenarios) the background was all black except for the messages and the first Gear Battle. From the time I left the mountain pass to the clip before the first gear battle the background was all black. How do I fix this? Or is it suppose to be like that?

I have the same problem.. I went to his site, and I couldn't find the help that I needed.

My video card and the type of ram I use is very dated. That is the primary reason I never got past disc 1 in XG.. I just couldn't handle the black screens. My FPS rate would drop to 4 suddenly.. causing my whole system to lag.

Just play with the framebuffer settings until you find something that works for you. I personally like to use Full VRAM Primitives.

I'm using Pete's DX6 D3D 1.67 plugin right now.. these are the best results I can get:

-pictures on screen, moving too.
-veery slow 10-20 FPS

I've tried toning down the graphics.. but it doesn't seem to help any. Does anyone have ideas? I only have a TNT2 vid card.

EDIT: after trying the 'fast' mode, I'm running extremely fast. Things seem 2-3x as fast as on the PSX. However, when it gets to that screen (load state) the frame rate drops to about 30-50 FPS. I can't seem to find a way around it. If I tone the graphics down too far, the normal gameplay runs too fast. If I have nominal gameplay, those scenes come to a crawl. What a sour pickle.

Enable FPS limit and set it to autodetect FPS limit.

The only reason I joined these boards was because of this problem....

You see, I've done a few searches, and I have visited your site say.. eight times. It just doesn't seem to apply to me. I can't use the same settings you do and expect it to work. Again, I have a totally different machine.

Actually, I'm not lazy... just incredibly ignorant. My last time using this emulator was a year ago. I'm sorry to cause you trouble.

AMD Duron 958 MHz
384 MB RAM
NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 32 MB vid card
Creative Sound Blaster Live Value!
Creative CD5230 CR-ROM (52X, and slow as hell...)

My apologies for not being ablle to navigate your site.

Q. The game just hung for no apparent reason:
A. There is a problem with Xenogears in one particular scene: The Dream sequence. What you have to do is go to just before this sequence, press F7, and then press F7 again afterwards.

Set desktop resolution to 640x480, for best speed, but this game can be run in any resoloution without graphics problems.

Texture filtering in this game is entirely up to preference. Personally, I use 6 with Hi-Res textures for optimum image quality.

If you want full effects (Battle Swirls, burning villages, etc), you have 2 options:

Set Framebuffer textures to 2 and set Framebuffer access to 3, or
If you have FSAA on, set Framebuffer textures to 0, set Framebuffer access to 4.
Warning: These settings both need a relatively powerful machine to run, so if you experience problems, use a software plugin like E}I{'s or PEOPs.

here u go its taken form Lord Kane's Domain and the config. is for Pete's GPU plug-in

Thanks for the support.. but .. feh. I tried that. It didn't do anything. When I did a search for PEOPs plugins, I come across Pete's. I can only assume that they are one and the same.

Almost. Pete's Soft GPU stopped somewhere around version 1.49, after which it went open source and became known as Peops Soft GPU. It is currently at version 1.10 and is available here:

Thank you for clarifying that for me. I'm using that plugin now.. and the video quality is quite horrible. With V-Sync on, it has speed problems (20 FPS) without, I experience rapid blinking.

Blinking aside, it runs somewhat fine. About 10-20 frames below what it -should- be.

So much stress over a single game.. rather amusing.

Well you could try disabling 2xSai, coz that's the only thing that'd make it run that slow, unless you whacked the rez up. Usie it in 640x480

In case you were wondering why Peops looks horrible, it's because it recreates the PSX graphics *exactly* as they were on the console.

I think after the lahan attack everything will be back to normal... so when that occur, you can disable the Full VRAM option to speed your system back to normal... when those black thing again appear, use the VRAM option again...

I encounter a lot of those and I just wait until taht scene pass and go back to the normal one...
