Castlevania Chronicles freezing at menu screen

For some reason, Castlevania Chronicles is freezing on me at the first message after the load dialogue and the intro movie, where the game first asks you if you want to play Original or Arrange mode. The selection arrow spins a couple times, then the game completely freezes.

I'm using:
Pete's OpenGL Driver 1.45 (I have a GeForce2)
Pete's MIDAS Audio Driver 1.7 (everything enabled)
Pete's CDR ASPI Driver 1.0 - BE_2 (ATAPI SPEC 2) read mode with read-ahead caching

try updating your plug-ins like pete's OpenGL 1.65, try eternal SPU 1.30, and pete's CDR ASPI Driver 1.10

Make sure SPU IRQ is off in the emu, and on in the sound plugin, and try incrasing the buffer if that fails.

The sound is improved, but I haven't been able to get it to time correctly (it's always slightly delayed). The game also seems to speed up and slow down a lot. Is there something I can do to fix this?

It seems that you have not turned on "Use FPS limit" and "Auto-detect FPS..." in your video plugin.

after going through starting movies, when i arrive at the start up screen it freezes what can i do to change this?
Someone else in forum had similar problem Im using
Petes soft 1.54
pets midas 1.7
PSX ASPI CDR 1.10

there was a sugestion that fixed his probs updating to
petes 1.65
eternal spu 1.30
PSX ASPI CDR 1.10

I did update and it doesnt help me

I have 1.33 AMD t-bird
using ATI Raedin 7200 64 MEG sdramm video card
