Detonator 40

nVidia have unleashed the Detonator 40 on the world. You can download it here
edit wow, I just noticed this description:
Quote:
For applications vendors, Detonator 40 includes a CineFX(TM) Hardware Emulator that allows developers to create advanced cinematic effects for NVIDIA's next-generation graphics technologies -- but have them rendered on NVIDIA's current family of GPUs. CineFX is NVIDIA's next-generation graphics processing architecture -- a highly efficient and advanced rendering architecture featuring advanced programmability; high-precision color; dramatically improved performance; support for high-level shading languages; generalized vertex and pixel processing; and high bandwidth to system memory and CPU.

Maybe it will, man. Apparently there is a 25% speed up! probs only for the 4Ti, but taht's not the really good news.
It allows it to emulate pixel and vertex shaders and CineFX
I don't actualy know this, this is what I have been given to understand. verification would be helpful people.

I tried them on my 4600, got a 5% performance increase in 3Dmark. But everything else remained pretty much the same. The nature test in 3Dmark ran at a significantly higher framerate (that was the only thing I saw a 25% increase in), but that was it. Nvidia's doing a bit of exagerting when they say there is a 25% increase, but that's nothing new.

Still you won't see me complaining about a performance increase, however small or however limited to a very small set of criteria.

I suppose OpenGL 1.4 support is new.
Speaking of which, Linux driver does not have OpenGL 1.4 support yet.

ITS INCREDIBLE I can run most of my psx games with 4xFSAA and only about 5-7FPS loss and if i put Screen smoothing i lose about 20 extra but its still fast

So its a constant 50-60FPS for since i used to run it at force 80FPS
I can recommend this driver to any who can use it.

PS: I could run Warcraft 3 finely with settings at medium and 4XFSAA and no speed loss at all.

This result is from my GF2MX/MX400 175MHz/166MHz (Core Freq./SDRAM Freq.):
3DMark2001 SE, all default settings: 2289(Det. 30.89)->2437(Det. 40.41)
Does that sound like good news?
Also, I have tried the NV30 Emulate thingy. It seems to only support OpenGL since the program that enables the emulation is titled "nvidia OPENGL emulation tool".

P.S. Just tried it with the Pete's GPU plugins in Darkman's GPUTest and the scores are around the same with the other Det.s I tried (30.XX). But I do notice a speed up in games like Chocobo's Racing emulated by PCSX. Since the only thing that changed since the last time I played was the driver, I am pretty sure that is the cause

When 4XFSAA Enabled, my FF7 runs at full speed untill the swirl effects, it drops to something like 01 fps, I have the swirl effect and screen smoothing disabled but still having the problem. Also in the menu, fps drops to 30 sometimes.

I noticed that to thats why i only use 4xFSAA but thats what causing the imense slow downs in menu's.
2xSai seems to be faster to untill alot of textures show up then it slows down so 4xFSAA is what i use for now.

Thanx for the news Kane i appreciate it

Well it died on my machine, refusing to install. That might have something to do with the fact that my Voodoo 5 is my primary card, and the GeForce is on a TV....
