I'm surprised no one ever mentioned Nvidia's new software: Cg.

Well programming shaders has never been easier with this software.
We are a step closer to be able to program real-time cg games
What a nice future in 3d graphics we all have.

No, this is a language to be used by game developers to program the GPU, so they can more easily use the pixel shader and vertex shader of the graphics card to program nice graphilcal effects in their games.

I am not surprised yet, since it still remains to be seen whether the promises will turn out to be true by the Cg language, or it's just a competing standard against OpenGL 2.0 and DX9 in terms of shading language since Cg's compiler is limited to nVidia-only display card.

it's all about consolidating Nvidia cards, no big deal, apparently it doesn't work that way usually, becoz there are so many new card come out, and they all works at the standard of opengl2.0 and dx9, therefore most game developer would choose to use opengl2.0 and dx9 to code more. and since that way it's more compatible with older cards.
