Howly crap.....PS2 defect rate is 30-40 percent.....!

Oh man!....why is this happening to me......! at one time I want to buy the PS2 and on the other I don't.....PS2 hardware defects are 30-40 percent....! on nvmax foums there is this guy who sells PS2s and Xbox....here is what he says about Sony and PS2

I'd like to point out that Microsoft was planning on a price drop first. Sony dropped its price as a counter tactic based on a leak, nearly overnight. Sony pulled it off so fast that retail stores barely even had time to react. We were still selling pre-owned PS2s at the same price as new yesterday cuz the home office had no time to update the price.

Lesson: everyone thinks Microsoft is bad; you should all get on the inside and see the **** Sony pulls. Sony is a total bastard compared to Microsoft. Sony does not care about the consumer; they just pump the stuff out, everyone else (including retailers) be damned - and they can do it "because we're sony." And they get away with it, and Joe Blow who loves his playstation doesn't even hear about it. Microsoft only screws over other companies; Sony screws everyone over.
I find it appalling how many people end up having to return their PS2s twice because they're shoddily made pieces of scrap and still like them. PS2s have an alarmingly high defect rate. But it's like everyone's been brainwashed into thinking it's actually a good system just because "it's playstation."
I've seen 8 PS2s come back in the space of a week and in that same time period we only had one XBOX back. And we've been selling them in nearly equal amounts recently.
Our demo PS2s rip the discs apart. We stuck a new copy of High Heat into one of our PS2s and after a month we had to defect it out. It was thrashed. Furthermore, the drive tray rattled loudly when ejecting the disc - and we ejected it only a few times in that month. Add to that all the possible dvd playback probs, the cd probs, and the fact that if you call sony and say that you had it standing on its side and now it doesn't work they will tell you that they don't recommend it (even though it's made to do it) and it's your fault now. . .
I don't think I will be buying a PS2.

If any of you do buy one, PLEASE get whatever extra warranty is available for it. A proven 30-40% defect rate doesn't lie.

Anyway, that's the end of my rant. And a note to any ps2 fanboys that feel like trying to slam me: don't even bother. I work with these things every day, I sell them, I take the defectives in, I troubleshoot them, I offer people advice on how to fix their problems with them. I KNOW about the PS2.

My PS2 doesnt scratch disc's , but it doesnt play GTA3 smoothly. The cd tray rattles when I eject it too.

Well first off we all should have known that the PS2s were gonna be giant peices of crap, the only reason there is a PS2 is because the Dreamcast came and ripped Sony a new one. Suddenly Sony said "Wait wait! We've got a new system too and it's better!!!" Thus the PS2 was born, seemed to be put together just about overnight then produced into the thousands and handed to people. It really didn't seem like Sony actually thought about the PS2 before it was released. But consoles like the GC and the XBox were better thought out the the PS2. Now i'm kinda confused on what to get, with the XBox priced drop and all. I know that I want a PS2 for all the games i'm missing out on but I kinda want an XBox because there are a few really cool games for it and there should be at least a few more, plus seeing as the XBox IS a PC there should be some wicked homebrew stuff headed it's way. And I love homebrew stuff.

homebrew stuff rocks...but in that case you're better off with pc; lots of stuff you'll probably never see on a console.

That's what some people say after they find that their PS2 had broken down after a couple months of use. But if they didn't use it for DVD playback and didn't mod them, they'd have a pretty durable console there. How much they abuse...I mean, use it also affects its longevity.

Hey my friend's ps2 scratched up my Xenogears cd to crap. And that 30-40% defect rate is a proven fact. I checked it out with 3 local video game retailers: Electronics Boutique, Funcoland, and Babbages. So that guy isn't full of crap.

what do u expect from big corperations¿!?! they're gonna make the stuff as shoddy as they can just so they can get more money. that's the way the world works. that guys saying all that stuff about sony, but M$ does it too, not only in the console market, but in the cpu industry too. look at windows, the main PC OS line (95, 98, ME) were all built on a flawed kernal, they knew it, and did nothing till now about it, and if they didn't merge their PC and business OS's, they probably would not have changed it. not that I'm saying sony's a saint, I'm just saying that they're all like that. all businesses are out for a profit, and, unfortunately, it is often that they don't care how that profit is achieved. (Square is another company that comes to mind, pumping out FF's cuz they know ppl will buy 'em just cuz it's FF)

ps2s are crap i know 3 prople that had problems with the laser one i reparied by adjusting the potentiometers one the laser board but its still flaky at best

or maybe because of to much "laser" thing in the lens and it burns thhe cd
