Xbox 2 n PS3!

XBox 2 Planned for September Monday May 13, 2002
post a comment: 34 total

Description
Microsoft are not known to stand idly by while they lose money. As far as XBox is concerned they seem to be doing the same. Plans for XBox 2 are well under way, with a reported release of the re-vamped XBox in September, 2002. What are those plans? The reduction of hardware prices.

Apparently Microsoft have already managed to squeeze their DVD suppliers to a 30 percent reduction and are now pressuring Intel and nVidia, their processor and graphics suppliers. Those two companies will be harder to convince however, since both seem to be complaining about XBox sales so far. Intel even went as far as to say in its most recent financial report that the Pentium IIIs it is supplying to Microsoft show "flat growth".

Microsoft are so focused on price cuts though, that they are willing to change suppliers if they don't get their way. The success of their competitors and their dwindling XBox sales are a serious incentive to bargain hard. With recent XBox sales estimates from Microsoft dropping from 6 million units to 4 million, it is obvious that something has to be done. It is refreshing however, to see that MS are willing to do what they claimed they would i.e. stick with it in the console market and stay for the duration.

PS3
PS3 is Officially on the Way Saturday May 11, 2002

Description
All through the hype of the next generation console, Sony's PlayStation 2 has held its own. With a record 18 million units sold, by the business year ending in March 2002, and an increase of 52 percent in games sales, the PS2 is not doing badly. It is however, obvious that a new PS is urgently needed.

Sony, Toshiba and IBM plan to spend US$400 million to develop the micro processing unit (MPU), for the next console in the PlayStation series. This new MPU is expected to be over 200 times faster than the PS2's current unit. Rumors of shared processor power and use of Fiber optic networks are partly confirmed by the release date, set for the new console, which is in 2005.

The next PlayStation will take us to the "other place" by relying heavily on online use and high-speed fiber-optic networks.
It becomes apparent that Sony have decided to confront all next generation consoles with the PS2, relying heavily on their already established user base and on their recently introduced online services. Waiting until 2005 however, may cost Sony leaks from their devoted fans and could change the current staus of the console market.
Whatever happens PS3 will have to be an awe inspiring product in order to convince gamers in 2005 that it is a necessary addition to their arsenal.

Nintendos Summer Job...
Nintendo Offer Ultimate Summer Job Wednesday May 1, 2002

Description
Continuing the push for console supremacy, Nintendo are offering gamers the Ultimate Summer Job. The new Ninendo employees will receive the handsome sum of USD 100 per day for playing their games and looking happy while doing so.
The main task of everyone seleced will be to be part of the team which will be let loose in the streets of the U.S. Your task, if you choose to proceed, will be to join every concert, fair and shopping center in the US and to convince people how much fun the GameCube and GameBoy really are.

According to Nintendo this is finally a summer job that doesn't suck.

So what do you have to do to join Nintendo's merry men? You have to be over 18 and create a two minute video explaining why you deserve the job. Auditions will be held on the 16th of May and 50 candidates will be selected. I f I've done my math right that means USD $5,000 per day for a lot of publicity, not too bad a move by Nintendo.

According to Nintendo you will be paid to go to concerts, play games with cool people, get tons of swag and impress all your friends. You will also get the unique opportunity to add Nintendo as a former employer on your resume, although it is strongly recommended you do not mention what you actually did for them.

Considering that the old console masters are slowly, but steadily, becoming favorites to win the console war, tis is another shrewd move designed to further twist the knife which is already deep into Microsoft's XBox. Nintendo are clearly demonstrating that they will not be sitting ducks to Microsoft media hype. The Japanese giant also announced recently, that they will be reducing the GameCube's European price, days before its scheduled release, 3rd May, 2002.

Sounds fun eh?

That would be more easily accomplished with a Ping-chan unit.

I'm surprised Sony still thinks the PS2 is going to last until 2005, despite some fairly loud competition.

The PS2 is no PS1 though. I don't think it's fair to judge a console based upon previous consoles from the same manufacturer. (SNES vs N64 for example.)

The PS2 is in for some very rough times. Nintendo fully intends to recreate the SNES golden age.

what are you people talking about???
just read it up there:
18 million units sold!
thats 18 million people who are continously buying games! Gamedevelopers would be MORONS to ignore that fact, but fortunately sony doesnt have to be afraid a BIT, as almost 80% of playable console games are being released on THEIR console anyway.
it is meaningless how powerfull something else might be, i dont give a DAMN about the highest framerate or things like that.
slowly im really getting mad, there are ALWAYS better graphics somewhere else after just a single year! thats how consoles work, it wasnt different for the SNES and it wasnt different even for the PSX.
if you cant live without the best damn graphics then go and buy yourself the newest PC and graphiccard every second month!

You won't even realise that three years have passed, as u didn't realise that 7 years have passed since PS1, and as far as I can predict it'll last for a least a year more.

I am looking forward to one thing only in gaming ..............Holographic simulation or virtual reality (Like the Quest world in Jonny quest )

Common sense.
But common sense is not so common also.
Though Sony lost a bit of "good reputation" from PS1 days, I hope they use their experience to develop a better PS3 (quality wise).
'cos most of the things which have "Sony" on them are the best in quality, so don't Sony kepp up their quality in the PS department also?

A very good question that I have asked myself many times over. However, my sister has a Sony CD Player that lost its laser. Maybe Sony just doesn't like lasers, or something like that.

I personally have had almost all of my sony products break...mainly the lasers. But the game quality has nothing to do with sony that is with companies that devople the games. If you go with that logic the N64 should have killed everything becuase the snes was so successful.

Flop

i could see ps3 to go on to and well. But as far as the xbox 2 is concerned, it will flop. i mean whats the point of a successor if the first isnt a success. in my opinion all i see that old bill has too much money to spend and cannot face loosing once in a while
