a compressed music format which the psx uses with later psx titles.
(*.str)

the psx games releases in early years uses the *.cda type of format which you could literally play in your cd player.

XA sound is commonly found in movie intros, games with Voiceovers, and in game music.... On occasion these may slow down or lock up the emulator...disabling it may get you through a tight spot or give you a speed boost...
(Or if you just hate the game music )
