Never heard of hotdance, but if it connects to the LPT port it is probably DirectPad Pro compatable. Try the ntpad xp driver from this page http://www.aldostools.com/dpad.html, works OK with my self-made cable on win2000.

I can see the NTPAD drivers installed under "Human Interface Devices" in the device manager, but i still can't add the driver to the controller list. Why is that? What am i supposed to do to get this adapter working?! ...i think i'm gonna break something :| ...

Did you install it using the install.exe program? If not run that, and make sure you select Playstation pad (if that's what you've got).

Is your controller DirectPad Pro compatible?

yea it is. it shipped with the direct pad pro drivers, but since those aren't compatible with XP, i was hoping to get the it working with NTPAD. at the moment, my system still hasn't recognized the setup as controllers outside of the Device Manager window.

You shouldn't have to add it to the controller list, the installer itself does it.

well NTPAD is added to the list of controllers, but i can't add it and enter the screen to test buttons and stuff. whenever i click add, the computer stops and looks like its loading something, but then returns me to the list of installed controllers, and the drivers don't appear there. The devices are detected in device manager though, so i'm a little stumped.

In device manager/ntpad/properties does it say 'This device is working properly' ? Have you got any other drivers installed that might be using the LPT port?

Does the controller work properly on Win9x with the original drivers?

Other things to try;

Set your LPT mode to Standard (not ECP or EPP) in the bios.

Remove the LPT port from Device Manager and let windows re-detect it.

Install the the driver with the simplest possible settings (see attachment).

Oh, and make sure the Id in the box above is not already in use (check the Controller ID tab in Gaming Options). Use 8 or higher if you're not sure.

Thanx for the help. Here's a visual representation on the problems i'm running into with NTPAD. I REALLY want to get this working.

edit: notice the strange mumbo-jumbo under ntpad. that's a strange version of dpadpro that i tried installing, from aldo's site and i can't figure out how to get it off because it's in chinese, eventhough i clicked on the english link. could that be contributing to my problem?

anyway, so when i click on the add button, the driver won't add. i tried adding other random controllers, and they won't add either, but i don't know if that's how it's supposed to be or not...so i'm a little confused... here's the driver showing up in the device manager. it says 'no conflicts' on the propertied screen.

i don't actually have 3 pads connected. windows just randomly throws in an additional one, claiming i have something connected to my gameport, but i don't...but that's the least of my worries right now. i just want to get the psx pad running. anyway, here's the dpadpro setup screen. can someone tell me how to get this off my controller screen and off my system? thanx

Maybe the 2 drivers are competing for the LPT port. Try removing all Human Interface Devices from Device Manager. Also check Sound, Video and Game Controllers. Can you get rid of the Directpad Pro driver from Add/Remove programs?

i tried removing the other controllers and that didn't help. as for that strange version of directpad pro, i can't even tell it is installed other than it appears in the controller list, and i don't know how to uninstall it...

Sorry, but it sounds as if something is seriously screwed if you still can't install ANY controllers.

One last idea: is there a gameport device under Device Manager/Sound, Video and Game Controllers? If not, try adding one manually (even if you don't have one). If there is remove and re-install it.

Otherwise it looks like an OS re-install...

hey charlesg, if u were to try to add a controller eventhough u dind't have one plugged in, would it still add anyway and just not respond or is WinXP supposed to restrict u from adding it?
