Problem with my videocard
I didn't know exactly where to put this. It deals with hardware but I think it's a software-related problem. Anyways, I've been having problems with my videocard in Windows ME. Whenever I try to access the display panel or dxdiag it freezes on me. I think it's mostly a problem with Direct3D, I can access DirectDraw fine and there's no graphics corruption or anything. I tried various drivers (detonator 23.11, detonator 27.50, detonator 28.32, asus drivers) but they all do the same thing. I also have the latest Via 4-in-1 drivers installed. The problem seems to be limited to Windows ME, I can access Direct3D on Windows XP just fine. I checked my system for conflicts but there aren't any, and SiSoft Sandra doesn't report anything unusual. I'm wondering if anyone's had a similar problem or knows how to fix it. Any replies or suggestions are most appreciated. This problem first happened on Windows 98 SE. I overclocked my FSB and set my AGP bus to abnormal levels and my videocard wouldn't function properly at that setting (AGP was limited to 1x) and I couldn't properly access D3D. I switched motherboards and the AGP settings are back to normal but this still happens. I even formatted my computer and re-installed everything. Perhaps something happened at the hardware level, or maybe it's the software, I don't know.

Just a hunch, but tried yanking out the Voodoo2 yet (uninstall the drivers as well)?

![]() Unfortunately, this probably also means your Voodoo2 is defective. I had a similar setup as yours before (I have a GF2MX + Hercules Voodoo2 12MB), until one day this exact same problem happened to me. Traced it down to a pooped Voodoo2
