Windows Install

Seems I have to recover my windows 7 install on my main pc as its currently not working first it wouldnt boot up then I got it to boot then all my programs kept saying that the disk was currupt and now its not loading and I had to take the HDD out and hook it up to my HTPC via USB so I could run checkdisk on it did that and it fixed some problems but the diesk still wouldnt boot up so I ran checkdisck again and it fixed some more issues and it still wont boot up. So to me it sounds like the WIndows 7 install is hosed and I can not even get it to boot to the selection screen where I can choose to boot into safe mode and all that. So myu main pc is currently out of commission unto I get this sorted out. Currently using my much weaker HTPC for basica web browsing since thats all it is good for.

When I first started having issues the pc beeped at me and would not even start up so it may be more then just a hosed windows install. At somepoint in the past before I got it the pc was struck by lightning so it could have long term effects on the system. When I got it it had a dead HDD so i swapped that out and it worked and I also swapped out the psu and added my own GPU to it but the PSU died a few months ago and so I had to swap the old one back in which maybe causing these issues with the HDD.

And your question is?
Fairly self explanatory yes but you still didn't pose one

I'd try a repair install first. Easiest way to do this is to pop in the disc and then get into the BIOS and change BOOT priority from the HDD to the DVD Drive so next time you try and boot it will read the disc first.

If that doesn't work then the whole HDD is likely borked and barely hanging on so get everything off as fast as possible. Frequent sudden loss of power (you've mentioned at least a few opportunities) tends to destabilize the entire thing in such a way that only a format will help if it doesn't break completely.

Ok Startup repair found no issues and its saying the os is booting normally and yet I still get a black screen freeze with odd colors at the very top of the screen. So something is obviously wrong with either the windows install or the HDD itself. and I do not have another SATA disc to use all I have are IDE HDDS sitting around and the system does not have a IDE port which sucks.

Hmm, it seems repair install works differently in 7. With my Vista disc I put it in and it basically rewrites a bunch of windows files (without checking for errors) and then if that was the problem I'm good to go again.
So, sorry I can't help.

Ok that Harddrive is completely gone now as its no longer being detected correctly on my secondary pc it keeps coming up as an unknown device. Oh well the main things I need are already sitting on my external HDDs and the only thing I would of wanted to keep were saved games for my games. So no biggy if I lose those I have no problem starting the games over once I either get a new HDD for the pc or my new pc once I get the money around for it that is.

You could stick check whether it's picked up in an external enclosure but yeah the drive is most likely history.

To bad that dang motherboard doesnt have any IDE connectors on it as I have a bunch of IDE HDDs sitting around and no extra SATA drives. Which stinks. So the pc is currently out of commission until I can get a new HDD for it.
