I already spent $80 on headphones, I'm not spending anymore.

5.1 is more a necessity for speakers than it is for headphones. Also for hissing, it's 99% bad shielding or impedance mismatch with the internal sound circuits. As things are, many consumer-level devices suffer from this. Laptops are especially susceptible, and short of getting some serious audio gears (that cost almost as much or more than the laptop itself) that have insanely good shielding, there is no way to completely eliminate it. Even most cheap USB sound cards suffer from it to some extent due to poor shielding. Another way to kill it somewhat is by using open air headphones or speakers. Due to ambient noise, you won't notice hissing. Last edited by runawayprisoner; May 18th, 2012 at 16:40.. |

For now, most of the hissing has been neutralized thanks to "switching" the input to line-in. Not perfect but better than the default settings.

In which case, I think you should leave it the way it is and move on.

If I'm super concerned about it, I would likely go ahead and get a USB device, but as it is...well you know.
