Max Payne 3

It's been 9 years since The Fall of Max Pane and Rockstar Vancouver along with the New England, London and Toronto studios have taken over from Remedy Entertainment and are set to continue telling the dark story of former cop Max Payne. Dan Houser is the new lead writer who wrote for Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto. James McCaffrey has reprised the role of an older Max Payne in both voice and motion capture work.

Spiel from the official Max Payne 3 page about story:

Quote:
For Max Payne, the tragedies that took his loved ones years ago are wounds that refuse to heal. No longer a cop, close to washed up and addicted to pain killers, Max takes a job in São Paulo, Brazil, protecting the family of wealthy real estate mogul Rodrigo Branco, in an effort to finally escape his troubled past. But as events spiral out of his control, Max Payne finds himself alone on the streets of an unfamiliar city, desperately searching for the truth and fighting for a way out.
Bullet time has returned, along with Euphoria engine featured in RDR and GTAIV. The game also features a no loading time system between cinematics and gameplay, they have gone lengths to make everything seamless as possible.

System Requirements

Operating System: Windows 7 32/64 Service Pack 1, Windows Vista 32/64 Service Pack 2, Windows XP 32/64 Service Pack 3
Processor: Intel Dual Core 2.4 GHZ - i7 3930K 6 Core x 3.06 GHZ / AMD Dual Core 2.6 GHZ - FX8150 8 Core x 3.6 GHZ
RAM: 2GB - 16GB
Video Card: NVIDIA® 8600 GT 512MB VRAM – NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 680 2GB VRAM / Radeon HD 3400 512MB VRAM - Radeon HD 7970 3GB VRAM
HDD Space: 35gb

On 360 the game will come on two discs, PS3 one blu-ray.

Packing 35gb worth of content, and with PC specs reaching that high MP3 must have some top quality effort put into it. With as much zazz in the graphics department, along with some fantastic texture and lighting work, packed with lots of audio it's no wonder it has ballooned out that far.

Collector's Edition and Pre-Order bonuses

Quote:
Steam $59.99: Free copy of Max Payne 1 and 2 now plus launch DLC including eight playable multiplayer characters from the original titles, a multiplayer weapon pack with the hammerhead auto shotgun, G9 grenade launcher and molotov ****tail, the ability to carry extra painkillers in multiplayer, and a retro Max Payne multiplayer avatar.

GameStop $59.99 (US only): The same multiplayer characters and weapons (no avatar or pills), plus a "Cemetery" multiplayer map where Max's wife and daughter are buried. The map is set in a wintry New York City with sniping positions, destructible tombstones, as well as circular fighting arenas in a "rotunda garden" and a "looming mausoleum."

Amazon $59.99 (US only): The aforementioned multiplayer characters, weapons, pills, avatar as well as some kind of multiplayer damage booster. You'll also get a $9.99 promo credit toward a digital copy of Max Payne 2: The Fall of Payne, as well as another $10 promo credit toward any Rockstar game located here (both are expire on June 30, 2012.

Others: Most other digital stores have the same multiplayer content with minor discounts on the side in one shape or another. GamersGate offers 250 "Blue Coins" (equivalent to about $0.25, can be used toward other GamersGate purchases), while GamesPlanet offers a 28% discount for UK shoppers (£34.99 to £24.99, or roughly $40).

I'm getting pumped about this game and pretty psyched to see how my PC can handle all those crazy 35gb worth of game. Red Dead Redemption has been one of my favourite games this generation and with as much effort that Rockstar have put into the game I'm sure it will be killer.

Listening to Opie and Anthony, they had Lazlow come in and talk about the lengths Rockstar have gone into making the game feel authentic. They sent him down to Brazil to do some recordings and the efforts that went into that venture sounded intense. He mentioned walking around with tens of thousands of dollars worth of cash in a briefcase, talked about the real threat of being taken hostage, fear as their scheduled driver didn't turn up and some unkown guy took his place, running between the bank and the car, it all sounded intense.

Feeling excited.

I really should continue playing the first and get the 2nd some-day.

Though the movie trailers I saw confused me....does the game go super-natural at some point?

Forget. The. Movie. Seriously.

But no, not really... There are parts in the game where it would seem to be, but those are nightmares Max is having or hallucinations from Valkyrie later on, they're usually pretty short and quite easy and they do give a pretty good idea of the mental state he is in...

Even in the movie the parts are actually about hallucinations when using the drug Valkyrie, just like in the game, though it isn't made that obvious... But just forget the movie, it is a prime example of a video game turned to movie, as it sucks.

Online comic book, showing a little bit about the past of Max Payne.
http://www.rockstargames.com/maxpayne3/comics

I'm not sure I like learning about his past as a child or if it was really necessary, but I'll be looking forward to the rest.

Gotta agree with you Radix.

*twitches*

One of the worst movies I have ever seen. I only saw the movie with my bf because he loved the first two games. We both kind of sat there shocked for awhile after the movie ended.

Never played Max Payne. Always wanted to. Saw movie. Kind of killed it for me.

But now that Rockstar has gotten their hands on this game (RDR and LA Noire are two of my top favorite games of all time. Absolute genius!!!), I actually kind of want to give this a shot.

I hope the game is fun as the first two Max Payne games had gameplay of shooting and bullet dodge and it doesn't change the formula in the slightest for both games... If they didn't have epic story the game is rubbish...

Max Payne 3 looks certainly great and have put more features in but is it just another guns blazing game, I mean the first two games the enemies had little AI, I would have liked the enemies to show fear or courage and had stop being a corridor shooter where the enemies couldn't really surround you or anything..... I mean for all the trailers describe the visuals but what about the gameplay, I mean what do they really are doing compared to other shooters...

They've talked about some AI behaviour in the trailers. And as for what makes Max Payne different from other shooters that has always been as much and as little as Bullet Time.

Max Payne 3 has done quite well for itself in terms of critical reception, and, according to Take-Two Interactive, 3 million units of the currently available Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions have been shipped. Not a bad launch!

It's also been revealed that the game will now come to PC on Friday, June 1. "Our community has always preferred a single worldwide launch date, and while we couldn't make it happen for the console versions, we decided to work toward a global release for Max Payne 3 on PC," explained VP of Publishing Jennifer Kolbe. "Due to production and logistical issues we could not bring the European launch forward, so we worked with US retail to align with the original European launch window and set a new global release date of June 1."

Based on Ryan's account, the PC version should be a joy to look at it for those of you with machines that can handle the game's DirectX 11 features. Here's hoping we don't get any unexpected surprises with this slightly late launch.
3 million, that's a good shipment. And June 1st chaps, can't wait to make my PC scream.

Rockstar and nVidia have released an official chart for GPU comparison for MP3, from the looks of things the 560ti will be enough to warrant a solid experience.

As a disclaimer, wait for real world results, blah blah blah, yadda yadda yadda.

Destructoid have also given a pretty good shakedown on the PC version of the game, man I can't wait for my copy to get here.

Played some of this tonight, the action is very good and supremely brutal. It feels very much like Max Payne 2, however broken up into smaller segments with smaller gun battles and emphasis on cutscenes. It's kind of a drag to get a good flow on the gameplay.

The production is stellar, attention to detail is something else, from Max's suit shifting as he moves, sweat, blood trails, realistic body deaths with how they just slump down, carrying his weapons, not hiding them, it all adds up to something really cool to watch.

Voice work is really fantastic, action is great and the story isn't too bad, I had Max walk behind a bar while chasing someone down and it's pretty fun to have him monologue about despite him being on the job all he could think of was booze. Game is fantastic and smooth. Very very smooth to play, Rockstar did fantastic with the engine.

Screenshot thread if anyone's interested.
