Is EA trying to get Steam users to switch to Origin?
I noticed that Origin added Need for Speed Hot Pursuit and Sims 3 which I purchased in the last year on Steam. I'm wondering if Origin still scans the hard drive or if it has some other way to detect Steam "EA" games? I added Dragon Age 2, Shift 2, and a couple games on Origin from Retail versions. I don't hate or love Origin, I just use it, like Steam.

The Sims 3 was there before it was on Steam. It was there when it was still the EA Download Manager. Most EA games released after a certain time (somewhere around 2009 I think) can be activated on Origin, whether they are retail or even if they came from Steam.

No I'm saying I bought it on Steam, and it then showed up in my Origin account as downloadable, so did Need for Speed Hot Pursuit.

If so, that may be (at least part of, for the conspiracy theorists) why it scans the PC then. It automatically looks for select directories/titles and adds your games for you. Edit: I just started Origin and didn't see anything new, but then, I did manually add everything I could try beforehand. I'm not liking the forced pop-up notifications though. Steam has them, but they can be disabled. It's the one thing I'm not liking about Origin.

Your registered email adress for games and serials. These will be added even if you dont have EA games or steam installed. Making EA games available on Origin is their way of easening transition from other marketplaces. Sims and other big titles available on Steam can switch a mighty number of folks. Even just Crysis 2 should (removed from Steam at some time). |
