It looks about right. I remember all of the comparisons years ago showing that the GameCube version looking better than the PlayStation 2 version. Enhancing them may make the 3D detail level difference less apparent, but the difference in lighting and effects and texture quality still shine through.

ugh, wrong title lol, should have been Dolphin and PCSX2 >_> Just tested it for lulz, i remember making a comparison about it on PC version as well (with the shader update pcsx2 version and vanilla one). PS2 version also had more blurry overall look even at 3X internal render resolution, and ofcourse, the GC/Wii version uses realtime cutscenes vs pre rendered

Without properized shots of the PC version, a compareason between the ps2 and wii versions and how they render in emulators might turn to personal preference.

Wait, that's from the Wii version? I thought it was originally a GameCube game that later got ported to the PlayStation 2?

It's not precised, so assuming the wii and gamecube versions look the same could be a long shot. Wii's 'foggier' graphics seem related to the console's lower specs, as a common strategy to make up for in the absence of 3d and texture streaming (an issue the wii version shouldnt be having normally, but this hadnt been looked into). Edit: title mismatch indicates its indeed the wii version vs ps2/pcsx2. |

In this case, it looks more like the fog is there for environment though, because the PlayStation 2's version, which lacks it, doesn't seem better, but rather it has exposed low resolution forest wall textures (which make it look to feel more like a room rather than an open outdoors area), and it changes the setting; the feel and mood. The GameCube (and also Wii) have better specifications than the PlayStation 2, and that's why that version looks worse. If this is also a Wii game, I'm pretty sure it was still originally a GameCube game? Maybe the Wii version was a copy and paste from the GameCube version, but the PlayStation 2 port was a cut down version from the GameCube one?

Id check with the original PC version and the fixed one. The Wii port was made from the PC code, perhaps lacking proper lighting not for technical reasons other than the same why PC lacked it.

It goes liek this. Original version is GC version then it was ported and downgraded to the PS2 version graphically, heck it can't even render the realtime cutscenes of the GC version. PC version then was ported from the PS2 version (also has pre rendered custcenes), but the PC version's initial release is so crap, it was the worst looking, with the patch it enables some effects but still misses some, tho it includes a fog that is not present in the PS2 version, here's the original post i made long ago : http://www.ngemu.com/forums/showpost...&postcount=356 Also added the PC version screencap in the first post, mebbe retitle again? >_> That is the original unmodded RE4 PC Notice the trees and branches in the PC version, its pattern and density is just the same as the PS2 version while the Wii/GC version has more trees/branches

The ps2 version is indeed worse than the original gamecube release. Nothing pcsx2 can radically improve. Reduced geometry, missing lighting/world ambient shading. I wish these PC titles would get longerterm commitment. A shame publishers drop them like turds after the initial sales. |

edited my previous post >_> RE4 was part of the trio disaster that time, (PC ports), Onimusha 3, DMC3 SE, and RE4. All ported by a 3rd party SourceNext and all were graphically crappy/inferior lol. Capcom didn't want the same mistake again, and the result was RE5 and DMC4

Looking at the screenshots you edited in showing the PC version, the GameCube version (or whichever one that is from Dolphin) still looks the best. The second one from the PC version looks horrendous, and I'm not so sure of my opinion between the first and last. The last one seems a bit off in ways but so does the first, so I can't really say. Maybe something between the two would likely be closer to the color/look of the GameCube one.

The Gamecube/Wii version are the best graphically wise. For a better comparison check this site: http://www.gameswelike.com/web/re/RE%20Comp.htm

@Princess Garnet: The patched one looked horrendous? o_0 i thought the unpatched one was the worst of all version, there is almost no shader effect at all. @xZabuzax: i sw that last time , this one i used 2 popular emulators with graphical enhancements enabled including the PC version

The middle one of the ones you showed with the PC version looks rather horrendous to me, yes. That's just my opinion. Shaders or not, the first one still looks closer to the GameCube version in color and feel than the second, and it doesn't have the ugly bloomy/blurry (sort of a "modern console-like") appearance to it, only in this case, the lighting seems to bring out the blurriness and lower textures more than hide them. Whether it's got shaders or not is but a technical difference. I'm talking purely about the look (and thus, feel and setting) compared to the original. The last one is an improvement (and probably the best of all the PC ones you posted), but in my opinion, something between the first and last in color grading would look closer to the original. I am also going on what the screenshots you are posting look like to me. I haven't seen much else of either version.
