Borat is Freddie Mercury

Source - Sacha Baron Cohen's Queen biopic given title

The movie will be called "Mercury" and will focus on the early years when forming in 1971 and climax with a recreation of their famous 1985 performance at Live Aid.

Never would have considered Borat for the role of Mercury, but I can actually see the possibility of him being able to pull it off...

The heck is Borat anyways? Isn't he just a moron who figured "acting" moronic and making fun of other countries and cultures would be cool? The guy got way too much credit back then and definitely shouldn't return now for a role that requires having more than 5 brain cells (even if he was only acting and actually has 10). Resemblance or not.

I think his film and shows were quite funny. Cheap laughs, but the way people react to him is more funny than his own jokes...

i really don't think his career as an actor will survive if he doesn't take this seriously, so i guess he will.

Anyways I saw parts of borat (i hope im remembering the right film) ages ago and utterly despised it, its felt like something a 14 year old boy trying to be funny and rude would come up with, but i hope they know what there doing.

Cohen has shown a bit more acting in Ricky Bobby. Also, you have to be a really good actor to not drop your act during improv scenes with unsuspecting bystanders.
From what I've heard in documentations, Freddy had a very flamboyant personality, off-stage as well. Cohen could be a good foil for him, if he were to take the job seriously. Much like Mike Myers in the Studio 54 movie.

I think people understimate Sascha Baron Cohen just because of his famous interpretations such as Borat, Ali-G or Brüno. In reality the dude is quite serious and take his roles very serious too so i guess he could surprise us with something we never expected from him.

In real life he is just a normal dude like you and me:

true, but i hope his serious-acting is 'good'.
Jack Black for example has done some non-comedy roles before, but he just sucks at the serious roles. all he's good at are silly comedic roles.

Actually Jack Black was quite decent in the Holiday, although it is a romantic comedy, his role there was kind of serious, i mean it wasn't about him fooling around and such.

I also wouldn't bash Jack Black. While being comedies, his characters in both School of Rock and Nacho Libre had a certain depth to them. In Tenacious D, however, he was just fooling around. But that was that kind of movie, too.

Brain May had an interview about this quite some time ago. I think he'd do a good job, he's a talented actor and it's not a joke movie so I wouldn't expect that out of him. Apparently this is a project he's wanted to work on. Bruno was his worst role... I'd say Ali G was his best.
