Replace laptop motherboard?

Hey guys and gals, I wanted to replace my old motherboard with a newer one. I wanted to know, could it be done and not give me any problems. The name of the product is AMD Turion64 X2 Mobile Technology and the processor model is, Turion TL-60 (2.0 -GHz, 1-MB L2 cache). So can I upgrade to a newer one that maybe came out in 2009 or 2010 perhaps, or am I stuck with the one I have? Also, the reason I am asking this is because my graphics card is intergrated into my computer. Someone said I would need a new laptop or a new motherboard. My laptop works fast enough for me, except for a very few things.

Laptop motherboards don't really follow any size standards like in the desktop and server markets. Therefore, upgrading your motherboard is very likely impossible, especially since it's from HP. Even if a possible upgrade route does exist, HP certainly won't sell you the motherboard. You'll have to carefully search for the right motherboard from a third party dealer and hope that his information on that model is correct.

In short, laptop upgrades beyond RAM and HDD are generally impossible unless you buy a more modular laptop, like one built by Clevo.

This is the brand and model series I had in mind. Heres the link. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...ile_processors

Turion X2 / Turion X2 Ultra
"Lion" (65 nm)
All models support: MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3, Enhanced 3DNow!, NX bit, AMD64, PowerNow!, AMD-V

Model I want to use:
Turion X2 Ultra ZM-88[2]
2500 MHz 2 x 1 MB 1800 MHz 12.5x 0.75-1.2 35 W Socket S1g2 Q3 2008 TMZM88DAM23GG

So is this model possible to use on my particular HP laptop?
If not I guess I should just get a new desktop instead of a new laptop.
Heres another link if you don't trust Wikipedia. http://www.techarp.com/showarticle.a...tno=347&pgno=4

Uh, that's a CPU, not the motherboard. This is more of a question of CPU compatibility with your current motherboard.

In short, no, it won't work because it requires a different type of CPU socket. Even if it could work, I wouldn't recommend it since I see it as a complete waste of money. You're wanting to upgrade something slow to something a bit faster, but still slow overall.

I just ordered a 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo to upgrade my laptop's 2.0GHz Core Duo. I expect a 9000% performance increase.

Really I just happened to find it on eBay for really cheap, and it's compatible with my laptop.... Will also be nice so I can use the newer versions of premiere on my laptop, since 4 is the latest that will run on 32bit systems.

Mobile Intel CPUs tend to be easier to find and (strangely) are often cheaper than AMD's mobile CPUs. Hence my lack of recommendation.

If someone on eBay is advertising a better CPU for like $15 or less, even if there's "no point" in upgrading, I would at least seriously consider it because of the low cost alone.

$17.

As I said, it's more about getting 64bit support than anything related to performance, since I didn't realize Core Duo was a 32bit processor when I ordered this used laptop. (Not sure it would have really effected my decision, though.)

Nah, this laptop works for me just fine. I'll just get a desktop since they can be upgraded unlike laptops. And of course ebay is awesome! How you think I got a brand new PS3 160 Slim console for under 60 dollars?

Well if that's an option for you then go right ahead since that's obviously the best way to proceed.
