What is the Point of the General Discussion Forum?

I was just in the General Discussion Forum and it seems a lot of post were moved for not posting in the right forum along with a couple that still should be moved. So, what is the point of keeping the General Discussion Forum open if nobody uses it for the reason it was created. Maybe it would be better to get rid of it so users will go to the correct forum and post their topics where they belong. Thanks for hearing me out.

I think a merge with off-topic would be a better move, so as not to lose some interesting threads there.

... right now none comes to mind, though.

I've always found it strange we have a misc console discussion forum and a general discussion forum when both are technically the same now, considering the last forum name changing/shifting basically took care of any of the topics I saw suitable in one forum but not the other. I'd love to hear exactly what that forum is for now.

Actually, general discussion looks more like a dump to place the "I'm not sure which forum this thread belongs to" threads to me. I don't think general discusssion is technically the same as misc console though, the latter mostly has threads 'bout mame, ages etc. while general discussion is like a mix of everything.

I wouldn't merge general with off-topic either though, cause the latter always has EXTREMELY off-topic threads while the former has a mix of everything, mostly semi-off-topic.

I'd prefer to get rid of general discussion, and move the threads there to the appropriate forums; cause the other subforums are fine imho. As weird as it may seem for a while (considering we've always had a 'general discussion' subforum), it should make people think more about which subforum their thread belongs to, as Keith already said

You think Emuforums looks a bit messy? Don't blame me!

Right on the spot there, Thorgal. And while they're thinking where to put it, they might want to check also the search function before asking questions that's been done to death, like FF9.

Maybe there should be a sticky for noobs to look at rather than post another FF9/8 thread

Off Topic and General Discussion are pretty similar in my opinion.
