How to seed a torrent?

Im using uTorrent and am trying to seed some files on my harddrive to a friend. I have the torrent file saved but I deleted the original one created automatically by uTorrent. Now when I load up this torrent, it tries to download the files again, which I already have....

Is there something I need to do to make it seed my files properly?

Probably it's not the same file or you're saving it in the wrong location.

When Bittorrent sees a file with the same location and name, it will check it if it's the same. If it goes immediately to download, Bittorrent didn't find it.

The file was created from the intiial seeding file though. So its just a bit odd. Anyways, I have created a new file and not deleting it from utorrent at all

you can only seed a torrent if the files are in the exact same state (same folder structure, same archives, same file size, same EVERYTHING) as the torrent originally came in...any changes and you have submit a new torrent to a tracker
