Actually he does have a point as far as i know (i could be wrong dunno after all i havent seen all motherboards out there...) the logo only covers the first part of POST, the one that also shows CPU/RAM, the second part where the media is detected (HDD, DVD drives etc) should be seen normally.

My HP logo covers everthing until windows starts booting so I dont know what you are talking about strike. SO some may only cover a little of the post proccess but HPs tend to cover it all as both the hp systems I have sitting in my room tend to cover everything before windows boots up.

Obviously... when showing that video you should at least link to the article which explains the fast boot.

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/b8/archive/2...windows-8.aspx

Quote:
One thing you’ll notice in the video was how fast the POST handoff to Windows occurred. Systems that are built using Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) are more likely to achieve very fast pre-boot times when compared to those with traditional BIOS. This isn’t because UEFI is inherently faster, but because UEFI writers starting from scratch are more able to optimize their implementation rather than building upon a BIOS implementation that may be many years old. The good news is that most system and motherboard manufacturers have begun to implement UEFI, so these kinds of fast startup times will be more prevalent for new systems.

Yeah sorry was planning to.

I also saw they used a SSD, so that helped a bit too.

UEFI hands it off to the OS almost immedietly where as BIOS has to do those 30 year old checks.

Except for PC's at schools which don't even have an logo to "cover" the post. If i worked with 1 or 2 HP's that's many :P, like i said that was only based on personal experience i wasn't saying it as a fact but thanks for the info ^^.

Every OEM and most motherboard manufacturers cover POST though there's a setting in the BIOS where you can turn that off (if you're fast enough you may also be able to hit whatever key it mentions to see it at that moment but on modern systems that moment is gone awfully fast).
My current system for instance starts off with ExpressSuite being shown for 10 seconds and then shows the ASUS logo and then loads Windows.

Not really, many that i encountered show/cover the first screen of post, not the second the one where media is detected.

Windows 8 appstore.

Liking the interface.

Quote:
All Windows 7 applications will run natively on Windows 8
Security update notifications have been minimized to the lower right of the log-in screen
Refreshed Windows Task Manager suspends apps when they're not running on-screen
New "Reset and Refresh PC" functions enable simplified system wipe and restore
HyperV virtualization software comes pre-loaded on Windows 8
Multi-monitor support now enables a single background across screens, as well as monitor-specific task bars
Multi-touch support enabled for Internet Explorer 10
Magnifier function enhanced for desktop manipulation
Optional thumb-by-thumb input mode
SkyDrive storage support integrated into all cloud-based apps
Metro-style refresh for Mail, Photos, Calendar and People apps with Windows Live ID
Settings roam allows for preferences to sync across a user's Windows 8 devices
Continued update support for Windows 8 Developer Preview Beta
Even a Lenovo S10 (first-gen Atom + 1GB of RAM) can "run" Windows 8
There's "no overlays" with Windows 8; Metro-style goodness is baked into the core
Both Metro-style and conventional Win32 apps will be sold in the Windows Store
Windows 8 devices equipped with an NFC chip will be able to use a tap-to-share feature to either send content from one device to another, or simply receive content from something like an NFC-equipped card.
Logins will use a photo-based system
Apps will be able to natively connect and understand one another (if written as such)
Built-in antivirus software will ship in Windows 8
There will not be a different edition of Windows 8 for tablets, and presumably, not for Media Centers either
It's unclear how many "editions" (Home, Professional, Ultimate, etc.) of Windows 8 there will be
ARM devices will be supported, but not in the developer preview

I'm so pumped about Windows 8 now.

The interface is looking really awesome and nothing like WMP7 OS. i wonder how long will it takes to see some of the features in other tablet Operative systems i personally like the idea of having a full OS in the background and the reason is because i've used my WeTab several times to show some windows based applications to some customers and its really cool to be able to use windows apps you use everyday on your tablet. for everything else you have the frontend which is already awesome enough for usual tablet needs.

Uhh guys, windows 8 beta is released tonight.

For latest info:
http://twitter.com/#!/windevs

Just like the windows 7 beta, it's a timebomb where the beta ends around release time but we all know how that panned out with timer hacks and crap.
Free download.

https://twitter.com/#!/windevs/statu...06319806083072

11pm, it rolls out. I think that's american time.

Any of you bros doing an all nighter windows install?
I most definitely am upgrading ASAP.

I don't have a pc on which I would test.

Can't touch my wife's netbook and I have a mess on my laptop, too much data on the C partition and no easy backup.

We can't make any promises about the specific time :-(
Definitely today.

Gonna grab a torrent with this one because of last time, any of you remember the windows 7 beta servers going down for like 3 days and all download slots filled?

Happy days!

AND IT IS UP!

gogogogogog

It supports an upgrade install, I'm not sure whether to clean install or upgrade my main os. I do have a ghost backup.

And for once I could actually get it (13GB of special premium cap left)...but I won't. Still this is all happening much earlier than expected.
