Megaman Legends 3 cancelled.

Quote:
We'd like to thank you for your ongoing loyal support of Mega Man Legends 3. Today, however, we must regrettably announce the discontinuation of this project.

From the outset the MML3 Project was intended to give gamers across the world insight and input into the development process. Part of this process includes an assessment of whether the title will go into full production, and is based on a number of criteria with input from different sectors of the company.

Unfortunately it was not felt that the Mega Man Legends 3 Project met the required criteria, and it is with regret that we must announce that the Mega Man Legends 3 Project has been cancelled, meaning that Capcom will not be releasing the Prototype or the full game. Additionally, updates of the Mega Man Legends Developer Room will cease as of today, though the North American Developer Room and its forums will remain open indefinitely.

We can only express our deepest apologies to all of you who have lent us your unending support, including participation in the Mega Man Legends 3 Developer Room. On behalf of the entire Legends team, please accept our sincere apology for failing to meet the expectations of the fans.

We thank you all so much for your extended support of this title and this community, and we hope that you will continue to support the Mega Man franchise as well as other Capcom games.

Capcom executives deserve shoes thrown to their faces for such decision.
Biggest let down of the year.
With the only game I was interested in cancelled, Its back to PS2 & older console games for me.

Saw this coming, instead going to just put out another version of street fighter. I really don't think they've thought this one through.. I could see quite a few people avoiding Capcom games for awhile. If you going to try get a community behind the development of a game you should really think twice about the development process, considering how the last few project have been cancelled; just shut the **** up until you announce the game is going to come to light.

I think street fighter 4 is over. Its time for mvc3 rehashes instead. And after that, sfxtekken rehashes.

Seems like many companies are abandoning or destroying great franchises; I wish Konami would continue with the Suikoden series.. They need to realize it doesn't take 20+million to make a good game, I think they need to take a long look at the market and different options that are available to make the most of things.

The outrage in the comments are quite something.

But yeah a pretty poor move on capcoms part, I'm sure there are plenty of people who bought a 3DS mainly for Legends 3 who will be sorely disappointed.

Can't really say as a company they have much in the pipeline that has me interested, Street Fighter x Tekken looks okay I guess, but apart from that and a mopey Devil May Cry they don't have much to offer, and I'm too tired of Street Fighter IV to care anymore.

Lots of games being canceled on the 3DS lately.. And being sued for patent infringement on the 3D technology, "asking the court to enjoin Nintendo from infringing on the patent, as well as damages and attorneys' fees".

That is so disappointing. I even tried to convince myself that it was a joke after reading it. Oh well. I guess good things don't always happen all the time.

The whole deal with the patent infringement has nothing to do with Nintendo, but with whoever sells the 3D screens to them. There's really little way for Nintendo to owe anything to whoever holds that patent.

As for Capcom cancelling MML3, perhaps it has to do with however much/little support the project had in the first place. Inafune said from the start that the welfare of the project depended entirely on however much support the fans gave it. Now look at how many comments are there: 220 as of right now. Now look at the past few comments. They all have less than 50 replies each.

Sure, there's more fans out there that have no idea of the project at all, other than having heard that "MML3 is coming out OMGWTFYES!!!1111!". Then again, it's Megaman. It should sell well. But the Legends series was never critically acclaimed or that well received. It was more of a cult-hit, if you will.

If the hits per day the blog had weren't above the 15k, then chances are Capcom just said "Screw it, the game won't sell enough". And if that's the case, then it's totally understandable from a commercial point of view.

damn this is very disappointing.

i feel like mml3 would've been one of the few current gen games that kept the feel of games from the golden age of gaming.
even though i don't own a 3ds i wanted to see this game come out.

megaman is one of my favorite video game series, and the MML games specifically were some of the best of the series.

Looks like there went the only reason for me to get a 3DS this just sucks. I really did like Megaman Legends 1 and 2 haven't played the Misadventures of Tron Bonne yet tho. Ok I feel let down over this. But that seems to be the way my past few weeks have been going so I guess its ok for the moment but still I was going to get a 3DS when either the Prototype came out or the game came out. Looks Like I will be sticking to my psp for a while then.

its no friggin surprise, capcom would have killed it since it is a innovative game for one thing and they know nothing about that but cramming it into the low specs of 3ds would made it tougher to make it a real decent game is the real reason, especially makes more sense after the delays during development.

plus add the fact megaman legends art style was 3d but tried to look 2d like the other megaman series, how in the heck they decided to make a platform that will display in 3d.... the games art style were never intended for 3d viewing and that could also be the cause of the delays adapting art style that never was intended to be viewed 3d to be viewed 3d....

that goes back to another statement i said about 3ds in another thread where i said 3ds forced devs to go the 3d route and megaman legends 3 to me is a step backwards if it was for 3d display... to me it wont be a true sequel but more of a spin off...

anyways it also seemed to go in a way different direction with it (in regards to story and gameplay) than the first two games have set and hence it was going nowhere fast....

also the first two games were console games, what they hell they are thinking going for portable system, what they thought they can make a cheap ass sequel and rob the people money, the very people who desired a sequel so much... oh wait that what capcom is doing, half assed sequels or sequels that worse then the prequels (like lost planet 2, resident evil 5, etc)... so of course they had to cancel it, they cant make a crappy sequel and get away with it, no the first two games and even tronne bonne set grounds for decent sequel...

i reckon they should redo the sequel for ps3, xbox360 and psvita, not only it evolve the art style further, it would allow bigger areas for combat and bigger bosses which megaman legends 2 did improve upon on the original... and then if they do it properly with a decent storyline we could have a game that can rival kingdom hearts but no apcom no longer desire to aim so high, their goal is making money with the minimal amount of work

so screw capcom and their incompetence, all is see in their future is more piss poor sequels, and one of their more innovative franchise die.... oh well, i'll just be happy with megaman legends 1 and 2 and hope someone decides to make a fan made sequel, why i would like capcom to try and do cease and desist, maybe a community will stand up to them... but maybe not since square enix killed off the fan made chronotrigger remake (especially one that is way better than any remake by squarenix)...

I agree with some of that, they said the demand would be gauged through the phototype version though, which was a lie. And I don't see a ton of games with that sort of interest that far from a release. The only games I can think of throw around millions in advertising. I guess encouraging the fans for their input along the way was the wrong way to go. Also with the 3DS install base, how much traffic was expected?

And about the screens... Isn't it a Nintendo design? Because I've read Nintendo is who's being sued, not some manufacturer. Which wouldn't make much sense to me anyways. That's like a manufacturer being sued when bluray was an issue.

Quote:
As spotted by Patent Arcade, Japanese corporation Tomita Technologies last month filed suit against Nintendo in the Southern District of New York, alleging that the 3DS infringed on a patent it holds for a "Stereoscopic Image Picking Up and Display System Based Upon Optical Axes Cross-Point Information." Tomita's patent was filed in March of 2003, with the inventor listed as Seijiro Tomita.

The patent specifically notes that it could be used for a device that required no specific glasses, and it details how it could alternate between images directed at the left and right eyes independently, "so that the merged image can be viewed as a stereoscopic image by the three-dimensional perception based upon so-called binocular parallax."

According to the suit, Tomita was a Sony employee for nearly three decades before leaving in 2002 to work on fields of his own interest. It also notes that Tomita's patent has been licensed by other parties due to its "importance and uniqueness."

Quote:
We will certainly continue to welcome suggestions and comments from Capcom’s community on current and future titles although right now there are no projects with plans to replicate the same level of interaction.
Good Idea. Might avoid the death of another franchise.
