Policenauts Guncon - possible beta / final build

Got tired of this game - brute force.

Installed a low-level input remapper for Guncon - fixes port2 trigger. Game totally done - about 6-8 gun modules total.

At bootup you can plug a mouse into port1. Then when the logo shows, save state. Reload emu with a joypad in port1. Guncon still works and I haven't noticed any unusual input problems (with d-pad or guncon).

Also changing between mouse - joypad in-game didn't seem to have a bad effect either. But the game must detect a port1 mouse at least once to initialize all the variables.



As for Point Blank, I've got 1 idea - game probably uses a GPU list to flash the screen (aka Policenauts cursor). If true, I should be able to catch this easily and put up a PEC cheat.

If not, then maybe. Maybe not.



edit:
New Policenauts patch up - allows use of a d-pad (port1) for -most- gun shooting sequences. Which means playability in pSX emulator with Guncon (port2) (tested, works).

Mouse boot trick no longer needed - game does it automatically now.

There's maybe 1-2 that -require- a mouse in port1 -always- (Act 7, #2). No unplugging allowed. No way to hack around this (not by me anyway).

Turns out that the main gun module is the flaky one. Which affects 1/2 the game.

Really unsure if this can be fixed.

i have tested the pad through the adventure game and now works ok. lightgun also tested in shooting range and tigger works. All perfect by now. i hope to finish the game in one or two weeks,so ill tell you if i find some bug.
Wich were the shooting segments that needed mouse in p1? they are in cd1 or cd2?
only for curiosity, would this work in a real ps1?

Hopkat mentioned that the game does very low-level caching. Sheer moment of D'oh! So took a brute force approach around it.

I'm pretty sure both cds need that mouse trick
- cd1 = Downtown / Museum / Train
- cd2 = Hangar / Tower (4 of 6)

Don't need trick (pSX playable)
- cd1 = Shooting range, highway
- cd2 = Mass Driver / Lobby / Garage


Hopkat says we can just throw out the d-pad shooting code and do a guncon -> d-pad remap. Worth a try - didn't think of that.

Just plug Guncon into port2 and play away. Seems fully pSX compatible (minus some random emu crashes - not repeatable but happens with fast-forward)
(tested nearly most shooting sequences - only hangar #1 not tested)

Thanks for trying it out. Seems good but will hold off on official release.

hey shalma, i have played policenauts about 6 hours, with p1-pad p2-guncon, and all ok. this game rules. in that 6h the emu crashed 2 times, which isnt any problem, i save too often.
the only i noticed at the moment is that i you play with p1-mouse p2-guncon, you shoot always twice with the mouse button as with the trigger. That isnt a problem for me, but is a bug, isnt it?

Hmm......... Guess I could take a looksie just to appease.

You may have noticed the gun flash PEC hacks. Point Blank Trilogy is done (and many others).

i finished policenauts playing p1-pd and p2-guncon, and nothig to ay, works perfect.
for me, policenauts' shooting range is even better than mame games like police trainer (which is a specific shooting range game).
some shooting segments are too small for me, but others are really funny with the lightgun.

If you are interest, twice years ago I made a "patch" for playing snatcher with gun, ( because i didnt fount any genesis emu that supported guns in absolute mode).
I made it with a program called autohotkey. i'm not programmer so it has some disadvantages but it works.

i had found you made a cheat to remove moorhuhn's crosshair. thats interesing or me, but do you know if there is a commandline to load a cheat?

Allows you to use gameshark cheats (40,80,d0-d3 codes). Text file can be PEC-style with names, spaces, etc.

gpu, spu, cdr plugin swapping available.

Tested with Moorhuhn X.

hey shalma dont you have hotmail? the snatcher archive is 8mb.

thanks for the commandline. it is very useful. i tested morhuhn x and p2 crosshair is not hidden. also, morhunh x,2 nd 3 hacks -1,-1 and -2,-2 never worked for me with the guns but they do with mouse.

Ooh~ That's pretty big. ^^

I plan on hacking Kega Fusion someday with a post-output sound filter. Maybe RawInput can be applied there too (ala PCSX2). If I need it, I'll ask again (don't have Hotmail).

That should apply the gun hacks to both mouse / lightgun now. Have to de-cursor Moorhuhn 2 also sometime (and finish 3 if possible). And add P2 hiding.

Kega with guns would be nice, what i have to say, but there arent much games, and most of them are one player only. if ou ask illsend you the file, but i dont think it will help you so much

Thanks for everything. Just wondering and try to test all the things. :-)

The PCSX2 cursor thread is way off a bit I think...

Screen NOflash working LOL. Those improvements makes me to play PTBLANK with my friends on PCSX-R Lightgun build with Nuvee plugin instead of other great emulator.
The main reason is screen flashing when we abandon this game...

I think its all ok. moorhuhn now works fine with lighguns and with crosshair hidden. some game crashes with pec hacks but may be i havent the correct version.
policenauts final tested two or tree shooting segments with pad and mouse in p1 and the double shoot isue is now corrected.
What is the use of th archives in the “notes“ folder?
fusion working with lightguns would be nice to play american laser games cause the pc versions dont seem so good. do you know if the mega cd versions of that games had two player support?

As for the PCSX2 guncon, I've heard that they're so busy fixing the core, it's a backburner item. They'll get around to it someday; just not for awhile.

I don't remember any megadrive coop games other than Lethal Enforcers 1+2 or Terminator 2. American Laser Games 2P was where each player took turns (not simultaneous).


If you mention which PEC hacks break, I can check the source again. Maybe it needs extra d0 codes to protect the 80 codes.


The notes folders are for anyone who's interested in what work went into the patches. Or if they want to port some to other regions, they have a starting base point.


Mad Dog PC (original) has grainy video. Crime Patrol 1+2 had high-quality DVD PC releases but don't work with XP SP3 (maybe plain XP?)

Won't be quite awhile before I touch Kega Fusion. But I'm interested in hacking a few things.

OFF Paubi: Other talent guy makes ALGs for Daphne Singe, playable with real lightgun and mouse too in single player mode. You have the new Leisure Digital PC disks and a specific installer for each game. After automated tailoring of the two you get pretty good arcade versions with no missing videos. OFF

But, i see on emucr your great job, very interesting, but, i'm french and i don't have any clue.. so

Pcsx2 9.8, try your latest 7z, put pcsx2-usb.exe in pcsx2 root, make the same for plugin.

Launch, edit plugin, select nuvee, and config..

Ok probably ok, after, just trying with my mouse, so config, selected mouse, and hit acquire, ok, left button device ok..

Then, i don't have understand after, "choose game profile" ^^.

I try virtua cop elite edtion, and mouse not working, double clik -> fullscreen

very sorry for my ignorance !!!

what are the game profil, how to select them?

Ps: if i quit, i must reconfigure all the time

I think this game uses a Guncon 2.


Let's go over this again to make sure:
1- Copy pcsx2-usb to normal pcsx2 folder
2- Copy ps2_usb plugin to pcsx2 plugin folder
(untested- I think you can use the usb2 plugin with the latest pcsx2 svn builds)

3- Configure usb nuvee plugin
4- Use acquire to grab mouse
5- Set profile to 'Virtua Cop - Elite Edition (E)' (this makes your aim more precise at higher screen resolutions)
6- Run game

Killervin tried this game using lightguns. Maybe he can help also?
