Plug into port 2.

You may need some Gameshark cheats for stages 3,6,9,13 so that the emu can run the game (pSX plays the game perfectly though). And you probably need PEOpS SoftGPU (not OpenGL1).

Lightgun stages are 2,11,12. Can use a cheat code to access all levels. They are short segments but a lot easier using a gun over a pad.


Silent Hill PAL checked out. Same problem - no reactions to Justifier. No special ID check for port 2. So either the game detects a real Konami Justifier at bootup and activates the gun. Or this doesn't work.

Not able to confirm this. No data to work on. Can't work on this.


So that leaves us with 2 left. And then my freedom from psx.

Thanks for bringing up the Policenauts mouse idea. Jogged my memory about something - game checks for xy clipping limits. We can remove them, use values to keep the laser dot offscreen (which works).

Should make this easier to do.



Going to work on this before Area 51, which seems to use an upgraded Crypt Killer Justifier engine (oh no!!!).

Hacking this game to use at least an emu guncon should gain some attention.
(not sure if a real CRT guncon would work - no screen flashing)


Probably happen this month. Hopefully.

Actually there is a problem. Each shooting segment does appear to use its own code.

It's where to store the Guncon routine and keep all the jump hacks around may not work. Too much data to keep around.

Hmm.

Game looks to use compressed modules. That's very bad - a deal breaker likely.

rebel assault isnt bad, i didnt know it.
ith psx 1.13 works all ok but the offscreen shoots, doesnt work or me.
in pcsxr works with PEOpS SoftGPU as you said.
is PEOpS SoftGPU worst than OpenGL1? (last works ok or me with most of games)
can i change the graphics plugin throught the commandlines? i tested but didnt work:

this is used to give some pc games lightgun compatibility (changing the coordenate mode relative/absolute) and applying rawinput for dual playing.
in some games you have Select Keyboard for both players in the ingame configuration to get it working:

so could be easier doing it throught the pad than through the mouse? i dont know, its an idea

I'd like to get rid of flashing from games. And know that it seems amazingly difficult to track down too.


pSX doesn't allow offscreen shots (forgot about that). PEOpS SoftGPU works better for this one game (doesn't like OpenGL1 that much). OpenGL2 is alright.

Currently no way to hotswap gpu plugins yet.


Never seen the troubleshooter before. Problem is that some games turn off 'Justifier-only' options. Or make it harder than just taking the 'normal' route. Will give it thought.


Going to give nuvee a break for awhile though. Tired.

I know of only one way to do Policenauts - bash the debug code area with Guncon. Use own stack and guncon vars. Play whole game again and hack each gun mouse area to call guncon.

It's the re-compression that'll take even more time. Maybe next year.

Got the machine, just test it Virtua Cop Elite and Vampire Night. Both works with real mouse. Nice. This PS2 thing need more try and test maybe tomorrow.

I hope you will continue this, but don't want to add you decisions . I saw you make even more project (Nestopia). Thanks for your work/hobby!

Is there a possibility to get GPU cursors from the authors?

I've decided to work on Policenauts on-off based on my fluctuating mood swings. (Prologue is finishable with a Guncon, Act1 needs work)

Nestopia-stereo was around for awhile but mostly no one cared. It's Oxyandy's project now (I just contributed some minor help).

When cd1 is done, I'll let you try it out (20% Act2 - probably have another module to rewire).
- 2 down, cd2 has 1+


At the moment, there's 2 modes:
- Adventure = port1 (d-pad or mouse)
- Shooting = port1 (mouse) + port2 (guncon)
(only way to trick game into seeing correct gunshot markers)


Menus require 'delta' motion to select the option (guncon would require a coordinate system tracker).

Never thought about it admittedly. Would simplify some of the code but require more complicated code for the menu translation.


If you think it's worthwhile, I'll think it over.

controlling the whole game with the gun has no sense and you would get tired of aiming.

i've tested the first two shooting segments and lightgun works ok, but i have problems with the first controller:
- with 1p-pad and 2p-guncon: the pad buttons doesnt work ok, down button and circle button do strange things. i've tested with two different pad pluggins. Gun trigger doesnt work. only shoot when pushing the 1p-pad button.

- with 1p-mouse and 2p-guncon: works ok but the gun trigger only works if you dont hit adquire in 1p-mouse

the hide crosshair you said works perfect.

I can't support 1p-pad for shooting. It's put into the readme but you don't have that yet.

Game needs to see 2x mice to force the Guncon code to work (during shooting). Only adventure mode works okay with 1p-pad.

yes, 1p-pad for shooting is not needed playing with a gun, but in adventure mode 1p-pad is working strange as when you push x, it's like you press x+cycle, and direction keys either works properly for me, (in the game with no patch this works normally).
and guncon trigger dont work. you have to aim with the gun and shoot with the pad button.

Mouse button bug (shooting) is a problem. Have to try the adventure mode some more using d-pad (without patch).

The 1st one is much harder to fix than I thought. These problems could set this back a week or two easily.

We'll see how this goes. :|
