Trying to play final Fantasy IV & Dragon Quest 9? *READ THIS NOW!*

I have created this thread as It has taken me several says of playing around to get Final Fantasy IV working with **most** of the text glitches fixed, I see a lot of people have had this problem... especially during battles, so hopefully this should help!

** This method only fixes the most important text glitches and you will find some minor albeit annoying glitches remain - but it is playable.

First of all I tried DeSmuME. Very stable, however I couldnt get the game running at a decent speed... Try DesMuME first. If its playable for you - cool... If not then this thread is for you... Read on!

I have managed to get FFIV working fully with the important text glitches fixed, using No$GBA 26.a and No$PMP 0.38

Update: I have found a link to No$pmp 0.40, which actually works... Very strange as all google hits showed 0.38 as being the msot up to date version... try this first.

No$pmp 0.4 - Official mirror

I noticed that this package does not contain a No$WTT.exe (needed for DRAGON QUEST 9). If doesnt work for you then use the 0.38 link provided further on in this tutorial. For installation instructions see "So how do I get this to work" below.

The problem that most of us will have is that No$pmp isnt exactly a well distributed file as the creator has pretty much disappeared.

The problem I had PERSISTENTLY was that nearly every copy of No$PMP that I found was BROKEN. Most copies didn't have a Hmemory.dll and most didn't have the NO$WTT.exe at all - other than that the Readme was in Japanese... I wouldn't know where to start with that.

The good news is that after downloading about 5 different broken versions, reasearching a little, and with the aid of a little intuition.. I have managed to piece together A WORKING copy of NO$PMP, and I have compiled it into a new RAR for easy distribution.

I have really only taken the files which are out there and put them in working order, in the same file. I have NOT EDITED them in any way shape or form... all original credit goes to the author.

No$PMP Working 0.38 with No$WTT.exe

If link is down please inbox me and I will provide a link. Alternatively search google for:

NO$PMP v0.38 WORKING 31-12-2010.rar

Hopefully it will get into circulation before long.

I have tested this time and time again, and it definitely works.

So how do I get this to work?

Requirements:

No$GBA 2.6a *snip* - sorry folks no link due to T&C's search it yourself
No$PMP Working version V.038 with No$WTT.exe

An American or Japanese version of Final Fantasy 4

Instructions:

1) Download No$GBA (with zoomer preferably), and extract into a directory which is easy to get to on your PC. For example "C:/No$GBA". (if your installing No$Zoomer install this into its own directory for the timebeing i.e "C:/No$zoomer")

2) Download the working version of No$PMP, in the rar file there might be another folder called "No$pmp version 0.38", go into this folder so you can see No$PMP.exe and No$WTT.exe along with a bunch of other files

Extract ALL of these files to the directory where you installed your No$gba emulator... using the example above that would be "C:/No$GBA". So you know you have done this right - No$gba.exe, No$pmp.exe and No$WTT.exe should all be in the same folder, along with a the .dll's and .cfg files that were also included in the No$PMP package..

3) Run No$pmp.exe, a small red window should appear in the top left of your desktop... do the same with No$WTT.exe (this may only be necessary for DQ9, but I would run this too if your still having problems).

4) Open No$GBA.exe and run your FFIV rom. At this point you should notice that the little red window in the top left is now green! this indicates that the No$PMP patch is working correctly and there will be no issues with font in game - run these 2 .exe's every time you want to play FFIV (or DQ9)!

I STRONGLY reccomend using this with zoomer, it gives added functionality and stability -it works great! Load up zoomer from its install directory and locate your No$GBA.exe, in its root folder (again using the above example you would browse to "C:/No$BGA/No$GBA.exe".. launch from the zoomer executable in future rather than No$GBA.exe(just create a shortcut)

Hope this helps!

GL & HF

Illegal links removed. The site you linked to is a warez site. Distributing firmware files is illegal (and they were in that package you linked to) and distributing no$gba 2.6a is not allowed on this site.

For illegally distributing a ROM and no$gba 2.6a? For crap's sake, use DeSmuME.

Thanks for the clean up with the links, at least the No$PMP link is Kosher, which is really what the thread is about.

Desmume... I tried this actually, very stable but I couldnt get 100% speed out of it. The game ran at about 70% speed, and the frames per second maxed 20 at peak and only hit 30fps on occasions... no matter what settings I used. Such is the way of emulation "stability > speed"... things can only improve with updates I guess

If you can get 100% speed out of desmume, then yeah its the best choice for you.

However, No$GBA performed better for me. Obviously the graphical glitches were a pain, but No$PMP cures this.

I actually haven't got a clue whether the contents of the rapidfail link are ok since well rapidfail is rapidfail so I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt on that one.

I feel you on that one, I am very security conscious and flinched every time I downloaded and opened each of the 'broken' No$PMP Links I found. Avast AV found nothing in them, scanned for heuristics too so it would have noticed tell tale signatures of viruses... Its never let me down yet

Other than that, theres literally only the No$PMP files in there, no actual emulator or firmware... Thanks for the trust though

If only DeSmuME was as fast as No$ it wold truely be amazing, but it isnt, and it prolly never will cuz one of the emu doods just dosent like it whne things are fast.

But that aside this is great.

As stated in the original post, 2 days of searching and every copy of No$pmp FAILED.

I had .35, and .38 - both of which didn't have Hmemory.dll included. .35 and .38 didnt have No$WTT.exe (which as I am aware may only be needed for Dragon Quest 9...), I had another package (which didn't have a version number) which only had No$PMP.exe and No$WTT.exe... that didn't work at all.

This was all I could find searching both google and ngemu itself.

If you have a working link for version 0.40 (which is both valid as a link, and *actually works* with No$Gba 2.6a), please post here and do everyone a favour.

The whole purpose of this thread is because No$pmp is NOT readily available and working, to provide people with the tools to at least get FFIV DS and possibly DQ9 working is my only goal. There were no other threads, and I found no reference to No$pmp .40 anywhere...

EDIT: Just searched google and found a copy of 0.4 at rapid share.. it does work! However for those looking to play DQ9 there is no No$WTT.exe included... hmm

At least this thread wont be in vain. I can update the main post with the link so at least people looking for a quick start up for FFIV will have a hit to look at when they search google.

i can play dq9 fine, i can play for hours and i dont experience any crashing or freezing, the only issue i have is saving, when i save, and load the save, it just restarts the game.

im using no$gba with no$zoomer, i have desmume, but my computer is way too old to run it, it goes at like 20-30%
