Oh, thank God! I'd hate to have that as a default tune on my N9...
There is a tethered jailbreak with Redsnow for the brave.

I might do that but I'm not sure my gevey is compatible.

Wait until Sn0wbreeze comes out with a newer version. It'll allow you to preserve your baseband and jailbreak at the same time. Last I checked, as long as the baseband remains lower than what iOS 5.0 has, you can still use Gevey.

I'm not really afraid of tethered jailbreak, though it breaks a couple of things like iBook, and it's quite unstable, so I'm gonna hold off for a while.

Yepp! Just seen it!

Unexpectedly smoother and more responsive. In fact, it looks to be even more so than current Android tablets, and I did just get back from handling the Galaxy Tab 10.1, Tab 8.9, and the ASUS Transformer at Best Buy.

Not sure what the deal is, but the "closed-source" Android 3.x series seem to be hurting for performance badly. Perhaps that's why Google still doesn't feel comfortable about providing source code for it.

Just tested it.

Seems CyanogenMod uses a modified ADW Launcher.
I use ADW Launcher EX on my Galaxy Tab too.

Having Wifi disconecting issues but it's expected from an Alpha.

Anyways it's great to be able to use Android on a Touchpad. Feels like when I used an emulator.

Well, in other news, Galaxy Tab 10.1 was banned from Australia, and though the U.S. Judge denied Apple's request for prelim injunction (probably Verizon and T-Mobile pulled strings beyond pleading), it's still a lost cause...

http://allthingsd.com/20111013/how-d...sungs-lawyers/

Guess I underestimated the power of money from Verizon and T-Mobile. Still, it's looking like a grim day for Samsung.

I think the Australian ruling was as expected. Apple seems to be afraid that Samsung will release another tab though, and the Australian judge rejected their request to ban all Samsung tablets (just the 10.1). I'm guessing Samsung may try to expedite the delivery of their 8.9" and 7" tabs as a result.

The American ruling was also as expected (I would have been shocked of the judge granted the injunction). Interestingly, the judge stated that Apple must prove that their patents are legitimate, the first time I've heard of such a requirement. Should be interesting to see how this unfolds.

Droid RAZR came out. Cheated to make the rest of the body thinner while a particular point is thicker.

Overall, not overly thrilled. Still waiting to see what ICS brings tomorrow.

And someone bothered to make this video recently:

3GS vs Nexus S browser "scrolling" performance.

Last night I watched a liveblog on Engadget on the Android Event.
(Engadget writers are really biased, you could see their mocking comments. They treat apple events way more serious.)

Galaxy Nexus.

Quote:
Other specs include an HD Super AMOLED display (1,280 x 720), a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 5 megapixel rear camera (with LED flash), a 1.3 megapixel front-facing cam, 1080p video recording and playback, a newfangled panorama mode, a 3.5mm headphone jack and Bluetooth 3.0. You'll also find USB 2.0, 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi, an embedded NFC module, accelerometer, compass, gyro, proximity sensor and even a barometer -- yeah, a barometer. Finishing things out, there's 1GB of RAM, 16 or 32GB of internal storage space and a 1,750mAh battery. As for radios? There's an HSPA+ model on tap, while an LTE version will "be available depending on region."
Juggernaut.

One of the best displays in any smartphone.

First device with Android 4.0

It's so odd reading up on what's new in Ice Cream Sandwhich and coming across fragmented behaviour already present in SE phones like my Neo like the improved folder handling for instance.

Anyways here you go

Well, as I thought. "Leaked" specs list was wishful. It's a regular OMAP4, which is slower than Exynos in every way...

Screen is about the only awesome thing.

The one thing I wished for the most, a differentiation, never happened...

As to overall performance, we saw a good deal of stutter in the Galaxy Nexus before us. Taps were not always recognized and there were occasional delays in performing an instruction, though in Google’s defense, it was a phone fully loaded with running tasks and the software is being continually improved and optimized (i.e. it’s not yet fully baked). That having been said, it unfortunately remains the case that Android isn’t as swift and responsive as iOS or Windows Phone (or even MeeGo Harmattan on the N9). Or at least it wasn’t on the demo phone we got a look at. The subtle, pervasive lag that has characterized the Android UI since it inception is still there, which is not a heartening thing to hear when you’re talking about a super-powered dual-core device like the Galaxy Nexus.

For whatever it's still worth, Google should get that fixed as soon as possible. Stuffs like browsing the web and watching Flash video is much less enjoyable when the device lags profusely...

I won't go and say that it's disappointing to see the decice, but it's definitely disappointing to see Google still more fixated on adding features rather than on fixing performance, and they dare advertise that GPU acceleration was enabled.

They said that the lag was on a previous version not on the finalized one.
The one with 4.0.1 or 4.1 didn't have that issue.

That's what they said back in 1.5, then 1.6, then 2.0, then 2.1, then 2.2, 2.3, and 3.0, and now 4.0...

No, but seriously, it's an Android thing. I have had a long and good discussion with some XDA denizens, and the general consensus is that... it's not surprising for it to lag.

Also you gotta consider the hardware of that thing. OMAP4 at 1.2GHz might be amazing compared to... say... the iPhone 4, but it's like a run-of-the-mill average thing for Android devices. It's about the least common denominator in Android world now with regards to dual-core processor and all that.

With that said, at least it has a pretty interface, and I am liking the looks so far. Just not sure if the performance would be to my liking since I'm spoiled by iOS... and I'm patiently (to be honest, actually very impatiently) waiting for the iPad 3 with quad-core A6...

...because it's just been confirmed somewhat that the chip will still be manufactured by Samsung, and as much as I like to talk mack about Samsung, I still like their stuffs and manufacturing prowess.

Edit:

And why do I get a feeling this one was designed specifically for a certain phone device whose name starts with an "i" and with cheap pricing in mind?

http://liliputing.com/2011/10/arm-in...artphones.html

Cortex-A7, right? Coupled that with a low-power low-cost PowerVR SGX 6 chip and you get... an iPhone 4 but much cheaper.

I don't think it's a coincidence... given that Apple owns some amount of ARM share, and PowerVR as well.

Damn now I want to sell my Galaxy Tab 10.1.

Quote:
Whoa, Nelly! ASUS head honcho Jonney Shih just revealed the "next-generation Transformer tablet" here at AsiaD! It's the same one that we saw teased just yesterday, and Jonney affirmed that it'll ship with a quad-core NVIDIA chip, 10-inch display, mini-HDMI port, an SD card slot and a top lid that looks precisely like its Zenbook line. Oh, and it's 8.3mm thick, though Jonney didn't specify as to whether that was docked or undocked (we're guessing the former!). Naturally, it'll ship with Android, and we're assuming it'll be Honeycomb to start. That said, Shih did affirm to Walt Mossberg that he expects Ice Cream Sandwich to hit tablets by the end of the year -- "perhaps earlier." Finally, we were informed that it'll be called the Transformer Prime, and while a final ship date wasn't given, we're told to expect more news on that front during the November 9th "official reveal."

Only thing I don't like is the big bezel that Asus uses.

Dude, Google's always been about features. They're famous for feature-creeping and often release beta software to the public (it's basically the opposite of Apple, who only releases features when they're fully mature). You get bleeding-edge, cool software with Google but it's not always optimized. Plus they're not really a hardware company and I think they'd prefer device manufacturers to optimize things (and I do think hardware is catching up quickly).

The new Nexus is nice, although I would have liked it if they used Samsung's own SoC. I'm fairly disappointed in other dual-core chips like the Tegra 2; I was streaming a video off the web yesterday on my tablet and it lagged like crazy - tried the same thing on my phone and it played perfectly.

I'm actually looking forward more to the HD version of the S2. I'm also anticipating the release of the Galaxy Tab 7.7 since I'm pretty sure that's going to be my next tablet. I'll have to see if I can get ICS on my S2 though (and on my tablet as well?).

Well, in any case, to take a break from Android vs iOS...

Nokia N9 with Meego!

http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/22/nokia-n9-review/

...and all I have to say is... just... "WHY!?" It's a gorgeous phone, with a gorgeous OS, I would have paid serious dough for this but why, Nokia? Why?

I think I'll sleep it off.

Ugh...I was hoping it was gonna bomb this is the worst possible news...

Still even if dead it's not like all the work is gone. Perhaps at some point when either Nokia or Intel realize the mistake they made they can revive it.

I hope the people that murdered it get to experience unemployed life when the higher ups see reviews like this.
