no, never had one.

There were methods to s-off the DHD but I should've never updated OTA for that to work anyways.

On the One X it's simply not possible atm.

Well, here are the steps I followed to unlock mine. Mine wasn't S-Off at all.

Beware of those legal agreements from HTC, by the way. They essentially tell you to **** off if you are trying to claim warranty.

Yours was S-OFF.....S-ON is the locked down one...

So what you mean to say is that yours wasn't S-ON.

No. Mine wasn't S-OFF. Mine was S-ON from the screenshots left over on my computer.

S-OFF is a requirement if you want to change the bootloader. It doesn't look like it's a requirement to unlock the current bootloader since HTC Dev provides an official way to do so.

"Part" of your warranty.

But I have always thought that if it's silly trying to claim warranties with big OEMs... especially those from China...

My sister's HTC ChaCha has to be S-OFF or I can't root or do anything with it...so since it's S-ON she's stuck using stock stuff and I can't remove any bloatware from the precious little internal memory she has.

I've send my Diamond in once for repair. I'm glad I was able to change it back to stock.

If only I can show you guys just how awesome HQ4x looks...

High density displays + cool pixel filters = crazy results, I tell ya!

I have just found one more reason not to like smartphone emulation... until some proper pixel filters can be ported with decent performance, that is.

Fun fact: I actually think the HTC One X with its quad-core CPU should be able to pull this off...

Actually i wanted to write this post in the open discussion area but since the iPhone and the iPad are included i thought it would be great to let people here know and at the same time to give me another reason not to buy a product from the enemy ever again nor buy something from Amazon... oh, and Google of course since most people see it as the saviour.

Here is the cool story:
Quote:

Mat Honan, a senior writer for Wired had his digital life turned upside-down on Friday after a cybercriminal gained access to his Amazon, Apple ID and Google accounts in a bid to target his three-letter long @mat Twitter account. The chain-reaction of events resulted in all three of his Apple devices being wiped as well as his Google account being terminated.

Honan reached out to his attacker, who calls himself “Phobia,” offering the person immunity from prosecution in return for revealing how he did it. What unraveled is a lesson for everybody and exposes fundamental flaws in the security management at both Amazon and Apple.

Phobia used social engineering to reach his milestone; nothing was “hacked” using brute force. Phobia saw Honan’s Twitter was linked to his personal website, which in return listed his email address for Gmail.

At this point he guessed the same email was used for Twitter, and went ahead and tried Google’s account recovery page. Because two-step authentication was disabled, it revealed his backup email address was from an Apple .me account. Several characters were hidden, but enough was revealed to make it an easy guess, since Honan used the same characters for several of his email accounts with other providers.

“You honestly can get into any email associated with Apple,” Phobia proclaimed, pointing out that either two-step verification on Gmail or using a provider other than Apple would have likely stopped him in his tracks.

Phobia then did a whois search on Honan's personal domain, which revealed his full postal address. The same information was available from Spokeo, WhitePages and PeopleSmart so getting a hold of it isn't as hard as you'd think. With this information in hand the attacker was able to take advantage of flaws in Amazon’s security practices. He phoned Amazon pretending to be Honan and added a fake credit card to his account. Amazon only asks for the account name, billing address and an associated email address as proof.

He then called back and stated he had lost access to his account. After using the same pieces of information plus the last four digits of the fake credit card number, he was able to pass security, and add a new email address to the account. Phobia visited the Amazon website, entered the new email address and reset the password, then logged in and retrieved the last four digits of Honan’s real credit card.

At this point Phobia was able to call AppleCare and use the last four digits of Honan’s real credit card to 'verify' his identity. He was issued a temporary password to log into Honan’s Apple ID account, resetting the password in the process. Once in, Phobia’s partner wiped Honan’s Macbook, iPhone and iPad just minutes apart, courtesy of Apple’s iCloud “Find my” feature, which enables owners to remotely wipe devices if lost or stolen.

Honan had absolutely no idea any of this was going on until his iPhone suddenly stopped working. He was unable to enter the PIN to reverse the wipe process because the attacker created the PIN when scheduling it.

Phobia then reset Gmail’s password via the compromised Apple email account, and from there the password on Twitter to gain access, announcing “Clan Vv3 and Phobia hacked this twitter.” Honan's Google account was subsequently terminated by his attackers.

Ultimately, he was able to restore access to his Apple ID account, but a lack of backups resulted in him losing many irreplaceable files, such as his entire photo collection of his young daughter. Similarly, the termination of his Google account resulted in the loss of thousands of emails.

Amazon has since plugged the “social engineering” flaws and no longer allows customers to change account settings over the phone.

Interestingly, Apple for its part places the blame on its customer advisers. “Apple takes customer privacy seriously and requires multiple forms of verification before resetting an Apple ID password […] we found that our own internal policies were not followed completely,” they said in a statement. Apple has since reported that it has frozen over-the-phone password resets while it evaluates a better long-term solution.

There are several lessons everyone can learn from this. Firstly, additional security layers such as two-step authentication offered by Google and others drastically reduces the risk of social engineering attacks. Performing regular backups would have prevented Honan losing all his precious data, and using multiple email addresses with the same handle puts you at increased risk by making guessing additional accounts easier.

For all those who own a product from the enemy please watch out until things get fixed.

Read the whole story and you'll find that it was a flaw from Amazon to begin with.

And Apple has always had the ability to wipe devices. They just placed the nuke switch in user's hands. And this one is particularly exploitable.

It's amazing that no hacking was necessary throughout, though. Goes on to show how dangerous it is to reveal your personal info (Home address, credit card number, etc...) online.

he should be able to get the Google account back.

I know I did (as a test). Might still be missing all the email, though.

Looks worse than current quad-core Exynos.

While the individual A15 cores are faster than the single cores of current quad Exynos, the total performance is worse.

I hope they make up for that by improving power consumption...

This one is specifically for dear @ruantec:

Microsoft licensed Apple iPad, iPhone design patents

In all seriousness, looks like Microsoft at least knew better than Samsung. And it also looks like Microsoft DOES intend to take some "inspirations" from the iPad in its Surface design.

Now I know where this is headed...

I still say that other than garnishing all tablets look alike and apple should go screw itself for trying to cheat money out of everyone on something that's not even a design but simply the default way to make the damn things.

It's like Merc collecting royalties from every car maker on the planet because they made the first car.

And just imagine if someone had patented the wheel. You would have to pay 100 billion dollars just to make a friggin tricycle.

Someone just has to make a tablet with a smaller bezel, and bam, they have something that is not an iPad. Even Apple themselves have suggested that a long while ago.

Other tablets are free to implement such a design. The reason why they haven't is because the bezel size that Apple set for the iPad is pretty much the golden one that allows anyone to hold on to the device without hitting the screen... plus palm rejection tech that we have currently is horrible... to say the least.

But sincerely, it's not the wheel or the generic design of the car that Apple patented. They patented the specific measurements (this is pretty loose, but it's what it is) that they used to design the iPad and iPhone. So, say... if you build a car-like object with a door that has a width and height that fall in between what Apple has set in their patents, then you are violating the patents. It doesn't need to be a real car. That's what a design patent is.

Bull****, I know, but... they allowed that somehow.

As an aside, Apple was only granted the design patent based on that grid of icons... which Samsung blatantly copied with TouchWiz. I don't see how Microsoft's "Modern UI Style" has violated any part of that patent... nor does their Surface tablets. It looks to me like Microsoft wants to make a grid of icon of some sort... on the Surface.

Even a grid of icons doesn't exactly strike me as a design that can be patented...I mean how else are you supposed to do it? Hap-hazard arrangement of icons on the screen that changes every other week?

And then I'm sure Apple would still have a problem with that if it sells half as well as any of their products.

That's exactly the reason why i hate the enemy that much... i understand the whole patent crap but the things they are fighting for are pathetic. you can't patent a circular/oval object and then sue God for creating earth.

The enemy is just pathetic...
