Final fantasy 10 running slow (inconsistent)

I boot up final fantasy 10 with no problems, while the game is loading and the squaresoft things pop up the emulator seems to be running at like 150%, and when I get into the cutscene it drops to 50% + really low fps.

My computer specs:

AMD Radeon HD 6850 1GB
AMD Phenom quad core 2.2ghz CPU
4GB RAM

What can I do to remedy this, perhaps alter configuration settings or download something extra?

If you're not already, use the latest public beta.

Unfortunately, the original Phenom isn't particularly powerful and definitely not a good choice for PCSX2 usage. You will probably have to enable speedhacks to keep the game running at full speed.

If you have the money to spare, I would recommend upgrading your CPU to an AM2+ Phenom II CPU.

I'm not saying you can't play the game at full speed with your current CPU. I'm saying to use the latest beta (much faster than PCSX2 0.9.6) and turn on some speedhacks and you should be fine.

Yes, the newegg order sheet for the 955be.

That's the setting you want!
