FF7 and FF8 problems

I have been using a real copy of FF7 and everything has worked great up until right before Cosmo Canyon. Whether the buggy breaks down, or I get out and go straight in, my game freezes on a black screen as it makes the transition from the world map to the city. I'm wondering if there is something I can change that will solve this, or if it's probably an issue with the disc? (seeing as the copy I am using is 11 yrs old )

Strangely enough, I am also having problems with a real copy of FF8. Before you fight Edea for the first time, right before the beginning of the 2nd disc, there is a fight with 2 iguana "bosses." After you defeat them, you are supposed to have a battle with Seifer, but unfortunately for me, he never shows up. Every walkthrough I have read points towards the fact that I shouldn't have to do anything else to make him appear. Possibly another disc loading issue? Or, maybe I'm just crazy and missing something...

Any help is appreciated. Thank you!!

you havnt stated what emulator you are using. im assuming epsxe but for now ill just stick to stuff that isnt necessarily related to any specific one. the first thing i suggest is to try making images of your game discs and see if anything changes. tutorials can be found in the thread below if you are unfamilar with the process.

the other possibility is a corrupted save state. if you are currently or have been using them at some point then try making a real memory card save and load from that instead.

I am using ePSXe 1.7, which I have heard has problems running FF8. To answer your other question, I have been using a memory card the whole time, no save states.

I'm going to try the ISO method and see if anything changes, I will keep you posted. Thanks for the reply!

I just finished using CloneCD to make a duplicate of the original game disc, and I got the same result

Now that I think about it, I have always had a problem at the same area of the game with this particular disc... It's been about 8 years since I've had a PSX so I didn't remember that from the start hahaha. The video store by my house has a reconditioning machine, I think I will give that a whirl. If that doesn't fix it, then I guess im checking ebay lol...
