Thoughts on Gay Marriage.

Keep it civil people.

Quote:
In a major victory for gay rights advocates, a federal judge on Wednesday struck down a California ban on same-sex marriage.

Chief U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker's decision to overturn the voter-approved ban, known as Proposition 8, came in response to a lawsuit brought by two same-sex couples and the city of San Francisco seeking to invalidate the law as an unlawful infringement on the civil rights of gay men and lesbians.
What are your thoughts?

I find it interesting that the minority overruled the majority this time.

My thoughts are I was just about to make a thread about the very same topic :D. Had all kinds of quotes and sources ready and everything.

I think that it is magnificent this ridiculous proposition 8 was deemed unconstitutional, I find it disgusting how homosexual people are treated with such distain in 2010 and have to fight so hard to get a common level of acceptance, even at face value. This will undoubtedly make many people extremely happy, however I think even more, especially loud people will not take this news very well.

Maggie Gallagher, the chairman of the National Organization for Marriage had some extremely backward and blatantly arrogant things to say about the topic;

Quote:
If this ruling is upheld, millions of Americans will face for the first time a legal system that is committed to the view that our deeply held moral views on sex and marriage are unacceptable in the public square, the fruit of bigotry that should be discredited, stigmatized and repressed. Parents will find that, almost Soviet-style, their own children will be re-educated using their own tax dollars to disrespect their parents' views and values.
Prop. 8: Judge Walker's bias will be overruled

Suck it Maggie.

Prop 8 Ruling FINAL

It's also excellent to see the Governator making praise for the way the precedings were held. Although he has said in the past he isn't for gay marriage it is great to see him respect the decision that was made.

I don't have to agree with others about being supportive in homosexual relationships. I don't even have to like them. I know the religion I associate with was really pushing for this Proposition 8 thing and really against gay marriage.

But I'm happy that they finally overturned proposition 8. Seriously, we are adults. And the people who live in America...isn't this supposed to be the great and amazing country that prides itself on "freedom"? Sorry, but it's not freedom if we don't give someone the same rights because they like someone of their same sex instead of the opposite sex.

Just like religion and color and gender, it shouldn't matter what you are, you should be allowed to have all the rights another person has. It's discrimination to not let another person have those rights just because they are *gasp* different.

I have a few close friends that are homosexual. One of them is one of the most important people in my life. I adore him and we have been inseparable best friends since we were both 11 years old (so it's been a little over 10 years). You wouldn't even know he was gay unless you knew him personally. I have a hard time with people claiming that all homosexuals act the stereotype. They're just like straight people, except they are aroused by the same sex instead of the opposite sex. I don't have to agree with homosexuality. I don't have to support it and march in parades. But I am disgusted when people discriminate and also not give people the same rights only because they are homosexual.

Guess I'm a bad Christian for being happy that Proposition 8 was overruled.

If I think of the parabel of the helpful Samaritan, I think you'd make an example for many holier than thou christians out there Iruka.

I am very supportive of these gay marriages, they should have the same legal rights as any other married couple. If a church would decide against giving their blessings for the marriage, it's the church's own right though, that's what we have the separation between legal and religious marriage for. Like Iruka stated, if it would be an offense to ban marriage to black people, or interracial marriages, there'd be an outrage.

What Bree said

And Bree has clear mind on the subject, something which people like Orson Scott Card are clearly lacking. (I can still enjoy Card's books, though.)

The majority should always be overruled when they're trying to oppress a minority. Or else there would still be slaves around.

My religion prohibits the Homosexual relation all together
but if we are talking about this outside of my religion , as in people are already having sex and adopting children and its OK by everybody , then why should marriage be any different ?? I say let them get married , married as in have civil rights , right???
not as wanting the father/rabi/ sheikh and gods approval right ??

I'll just say I'm against this due to religious and other reasons. Not gonna say much more cuz we've already been through this discussion ~2 years ago IIRC.

I do not agree of gay marriage, nor does my religion allow such deeds. I, however, don't really cmind and I certainly won't do something to hinder gay people to use their rights.

To be honest, I have been pissed off by the behavior of some people of my own religion who condemn the gays, the homosexuals, wreaking their gatherings, or calling them filth or however.

As I want to be free to believe in my religion, to worship the God that I believe in, so must I respect the beliefs and the choice other people make. That simple.

Only if they are not gays with that fake camp voice and overblown body language.
I would kill them all as my cousin is one of these gays and damn it gets worse as time passes.

Two normal guys with a love for the dick, go for it. That's cool.
Respect the ****.

Lebos, AAH. I really hate those **** blocking men wannabes.
I think they're just scared of being normal and respecting the ****.
Lesbos do have sex with guys. Even the full "exclusive" tribbers. They do guys in secret but you need to slap them down a bit.

I'm with Bree on this one. Also I don't see anything in the religion I believe in that contradicts the right for the same sex to get married aside from political bull****. But I disagree here with probably most "religious" people on this board.

Putting aside the wierd cultists, I've experienced at least 10 times in my life religious people telling me how wrong I was not to believe in their god.
Christians, jews, muslims, buddhists... equally.

But no gay ever bothered me saying I'm wrong to be straight.

Gotta let'em be.

As blueshogun is fond of saying, QFT (Quoted for Truth)

Anyway, if you guys want the perspective of a real religious nutjob, just check out this guy that wrote a book claiming that Hitler and the big-name Nazis were all homosexuals, and that gay men are more savage than "natural men": Video: Gay Reichs | The Daily Show

He actually claims that the Nazi persecution of homosexuals was done in order to distract people from the fact that the Nazi themselves were gay. The highest point of the interview is when the interviewer asks him, "That which you hate the most you secretly are?" Reverend Scott Lively sits there stunned for a moment before he can say, "I'm not gay."
