What's Borderlands like?

I know a lot of people picked it up on the ~$10 sale, but I went for Left 4 Dead 2 instead. I may get this game if it goes on sale Christmas, but I'm curious about what gamers who have played the game have to say about it?

Borderlands is a great game mostly when you play with 3 other friends with the DLC addons. It is a bit boring playing it by yourself, the game reminds me of PSO but with only guns and a more open world.

I've only played multiplayer a couple of times with it but I had plenty of fun with single player. I guess I'm the exception .

this^

i sorta couldn't place it, but yeah, it does feel PSO-ish now that you mentioned it. maybe thats why i've been enjoying it so much :P

one crappy thing is it uses gamespy for multiplayer. wish it had some steam or even GFWL so i could have some unified friends list.

(off topic-ish: Gamespy is at least unified across other gamespy games, and when i started doing multiplayer borderlands i noticed it had some people in my friends list from Dreamcast 4x4 EVO and Starlancer, and some of the onlineconsoles crew, and got all nostalgic... sigh.... good times...)

Shoot and loot, shoot and loot, shoot and loot. In between you level up your character.

All quests are shoot and loot as well, you just flick a switch, pick up an item and return. That also was one of the letdowns I hope they'll improve in the second game. The core of this game is terrific, but there's not enough meat and seasoning to leave you with a stuffed and satisfied feeling. Of course, for 10 bucks it would be a blast.

Fallout literally starts with a first person view of plopping out of a vagina to the heartwarming narration of Liam Neeson.

Borderlands literally starts with a montage set to Cage the Elephant and shooting up bandits who just jumped motorcycles over your head in no-man's-land.

Its almost humorous how you seem to get your undies in a bundle because I don't think or behave like you. Anyways, I purchased over 10 games on the Steam sale and don't see the point in buying borderlands right now and for full price with all these other games to play.

how does it compare to the s.t.a.l.k.e.r. series? (also a kinda post apocalyptic setting with rpg'ish elements as well as free roam)

It's imo childish compared to Stalker. Always bright, or desert-foggy, little idiots running around like douchebags trying to hit you, slightly bigger ones doing the same.

All while you try to save the day. As usual.

They're like a completely different genre. The only thing in common is that the first thing you see on your screen is a gun.
