360 outsells PS3, but Wii rules all.

The latest NPD hardware sales data are in for the US and reveals that the Xbox 360 sold around 40,000 more units than the PS3. However, The Wii blitzed its rivals, selling 334.8k units which is around 80,000 more than the Xbox 360 sales. But on the whole, the US market took a dip overall which is concerning.

What a difference an Xbox 360 Slim and Monster Hunter makes to Japanese hardware sales. The Xbox 360 recently experienced around an 800 percent sales increase thanks to a combination of the above. Its sales total clocked in at around 17,000 which was just 2k short of toppling the Wii and PS3!

Monster Hunter Frontier Online took Xbox 360 to the top of the software charts. It didn't quite manage the same feat for the hardware charts, but the 360 did see a big surge.

The week of Frontier's release saw the system surge eight times over the previous week, reaching 17,000 units. This wasn't enough to top PS3 and Wii, but it was pretty close.

Media Create reports that of the 17,000 units, 15,000 were of the new slimline hardware revision. Microsoft held off on the Japanese release of the slimline model until the 24th to coincide with Monster Hunter's release. Overseas, the hardware revision arrived a week earlier.

DSi LL was the big winner in the hardware race, actually seeing an improvement over last week when Nintendo gave the system a price drop and some new colors. The reason for this week's added surge is presumably the release of Love Plus +, which was made available as part of three bundles featuring specially designed hardware units.

Media Create also shared its usual brief software sales analysis today. For reference, you can see the top 30 on this site's ranking page.

Monster Hunter Frontier Online was the top seller for the week with 93,000 units, but Love Plus + came in at a close second with 84,000 units spread across its software-only version and three hardware bundles. The original Love Plus sold 46,000 units in its first week in September of last year, but word of mouth lead to total sales of 252,000 units. Love Plus + is a replacement for that rather than a full sequel.

I wonder how long this momentum is going to last or when the new wave of RROD(or whatever is called from now on) will appear. right now all those that showed videos of the slim having hardware problems are very quite and no new video has seen the light for quite a while so lets wait and see what is going to happen.

Seriously this generation just depress me because it sucks badly.

True, but remember that it was 1 year of poor sales from a failure device at that time which is a point we shouldn´t forget nor to mention how many people hate MS without reason which is also another minus to reduce sales.

and last but not least the beginning of the RROD of course due to MS being so retarded which is why i don´t see the 1 year ahead excuse as valid

if you re-check the post you will notice that they were mostly talking about JAPAN a country were the x360 were never strong and if you check the sales it increased from the last sales figures which is why they are talking about it as its strange to see such a sales increase specially in japan.

360 were 10m units ahead of Wii and PS3. Bad sales ?? It's just a matter of time before PS3 passes 360... One year late and 10m units behind.

Note that 360 biggest market is US afterall.

I will have to re-check the numbers then and see how many they sold actually. still what they are pointing out is the sales increasement the x360 had in japan which is insane when you think about it and at the same time the reason why am like "WTF???" right now.

It's called 360s and price cut, if they didn't gain some ground with that something is seriously wrong. Though even with the price cut they only outsold ps3 in NA, but they really needed it, first time I've seen them lead 2 weeks in almost a year. Also from what I just read, the Wii only sold 167k this week; 360s outsold both Wii and ps3 iin total WW sales because of the strong NA numbers.
